no seriously...there is a law prom

Sidenote: As of now I find the hardest part of blogging to be the time to blog!

So I had an interesting weekend...

To start though, I have to say that I went to two different undergraduate institutions both with over 15,000 students and the usual weekend ritual was to go to some location where everyone would migrate and that would be your night. There were not school functions just because the student body was too large!
Starting at law school, where the total student body is around 600 people I knew it would be a different experience. It has been to my suprise though what social events are put on by law students. When I first started at school there was a lot of cocktail party invites something I had never done in college before but I started to figure was what law students do. But this weekend was really the big shocker...the LAW SCHOOL PROM. They don't blatantly call it that, instead the name was "Spring Fling", but I had not been to anything like this since my senior year of high school. The funniest part is that even though people were dressed like it was prom there were many twists!

The first kicker was the yellow school bus...the law school had rented all these buses to provide transportation.

Being such a small school I have all my classes with the same people and classes are serious and intimidating. It was hilarious to instead be on a school bus dressed all fancy with people screaming and drinking.

So next we arrive at the location of the ball. It was at Union Station in Hartford...I'm really hoping that someone who reads this has been there before, because first you picture the backside of the station where all the buses pull in and out of and you would just think how can that be a place for a dance. But they actually have this ballroom type room on the otherside of the building. It was a nice big room with fancy tables but it still had the bus station feel BECAUSE right where the dance floor was were glass sliding doors that would lead to where the buses pick up and understandably there were people waiting for the buses!
My friend Steve said when he went into the men's room there were lots of guys in there going on about how they couldn't dance in front of people waiting for the bus.

So I'm giving a horrible representation of this dance because I had a BLAST...but I have to tell one more piece of the story. Since it was a train/bus station and not a entertainment hall they had big pretty lights that hung down...but they couldn't dim them! It was a bright room and the dance floor stayed empty for a long time because there was no way to turn them down. But in all honesty once people started drinking by the end of the night the floor was full!

So when I decided to go to law school I had always imagined the intense study groups in the library and being grilled by my professors, all of which are occassionally true, but I must say it would of never crossed my mind that I would be going to a law school prom! It was a definitley a great release right before the intense finals season begins!

1) It's good there wasn't another competing prom across the street, or all the law students would have trouble deciding which party to represent.

Ah, law school humor.

5) That reminds me so much of my college career...You had a sorority formal experience, but with a law school twist.
