Someone new is in charge
I got up this morning and went on a walk before work. I had been planning to do so for days, but every morning I'd wake up and this voice in my head would tell me, "You had a late night last night. You should keep sleeping." or "This pillow is awfully comfortable. Are you surrrrrre you want to leave it?". It's a very convincing voice, but this morning (after a couple snooze button uses) I overcame it, put on some workout clothes, and headed to the park.I walked at a pretty fast pace around the boulevard. Twice around is one mile. My mind was wandering as I walked and suddenly I realized I was on my way around a second time.
"What's going on here? I thought we were just going once around??" Lazy Voice was back and wanted an explanation.
"We're going around again," I told myself.
"But there's no time. We have to leave for work soon. We'll never make it."
"Then I guess we'd better run." So I did! Or at least jogged very quickly, which is like running for an amateur like me.
I set a goal for the trash can at the far side of the boulevard and kept running even though Lazy Voice tried desperately to convince me that we would surely fall over and die right here if we didn't stop. I made it all the way. I turned around and headed for home, proud in my new ability to ignore the voice that tells me to quit.
So, long story short, someone new is in charge and I think I like her!
