Hey Ames,
Got your email, looks like you got it figured out already though. That's what we were going to recommend. The featured photo box centers the photo automatically so depending on where the subjects are in the photo sometimes they get cropped. Maybe someday we'll be able to offer more options for positioning the photo but for now it's automated and fixed.
