Suprise!
One of my 'children' (Glenn, the lazy one) is no longer employed at my workplace. And for the record, we don't miss him.
Over the past few weeks he had become totally unreliable, would lie about anything to anyone to keep himself safe, developed a punk-ass attitude, and sneakily (or so he thought) applied for a few other jobs. He had applied at Union Pacific a few months ago, but I think his skills test came back negative.
Monday, he comes in dragging, saying he was sick. Neither me nor the boss are medical professionals, but we can tell the difference between sick and a hangover. he got sent home.
Tuesday he plays the sick card, again, calls in and says he's going to the doctor. However, the dumbass didn't bother to work on even a semi-beleivable dotor visit story for wednesday. Went something like this:
Boss: How'd the doctor visit go?
Glenn: Well, uh, i uh duhh....
Boss: You didn't go the doctor.
Belligerent Glenn: You guys better ease up on me, or I'll quit!
Boss: Ok. back around to the door and load your stuff.
Stunned Glenn: But, uhh, umm....
Boss: Now.
I guess nobody ever told him that you shouldn't threaten to quit, because they just might take you up on the offer.

1) Dang! Awesome story but that boy better straighten up. That's what they say here in the South anyway.
2) We can always count on you for a good story-thanks you made me laugh. Makes you wonder why they even bother to "get a job." Good riddance and one less headache.
3) At least he has all the time he wants now--doesn't have to pretend he is too sick to work. Sad when so many people would happily have his job and feel lucky to have it. Hope you find someone better this time around.
4) Good for you! I wish more people were held accountable for their actions and attitudes.
