Staying at a French gite (3rd visit) near Belgium I decided to visit Mons, about 15 miles away). It's one of those towns often mentioned in connection with WW1. It's in the eastern, French-speaking, part of Belgium. The other lot call it Bergen. Here is a street scene, with the 'Beffroi' or belfry in the centre. They go in for carillons which play tunes on the hour.
