The Accomplishments of President Obama
The year is 2012. Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, or Mitt Romney is about to sit down for the election results to see if they were able to defeat incumbent Barack Obama for the Presidency of the United States. Obama has run another strong campaign, claiming the following accomplishments:
1) Obama has withdrawn virtually all forces from Iraq (some minor peacekeeping force may still be there). The war is definitely over. Iraq is a renewed nation. Bush is vindicated, to some degree, but Obama shares some of the credit.
2) Afghanistan is still a concern, but improving. Bin Laden has never been caught, and is assumed dead for all his silence.
3) The U.S. housing market has stabilized and the stock market has made a healthy recovery from its 2008 collapse. The Dow is around 14,000.
4) Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress enacted tax cuts for the middle class in year 1.
5) The U.S. Congress held steady in terms of the Democratic/Republican split in 2010.
6) Barack Obama has appointed 2 new U.S. Supreme Court Justices, both of whom trend center-left. They will both be under 58 years old, to maximize longevity.
7) The far left loons get a bit frustrated that Obama is governing a bit more as a centrist, but are still overjoyed it ain't Bush.
8) Obama does not do much to change abortion policies or law in this country, despite his promises to Planned Parenthood. He will be too concerned about not reigniting the Republican base, and concede this point.
9) The universal health care plans don't gain much traction, yet, because of the budget deficits.
10) Joe Biden does little that is reported as noteworthy, but avoids the gaffes for the most part.
11) American relations with other nations improve, and there are no major terrorist attacks on U.S. soil during those 4 years.
12) There is a growing sense of an energy crisis, as the United States sees unleaded gasoline hit over $6.00/gallon at some point. We still won't be much closer to alternative energies.
13) Gay marriage will then be the law of 10 states, instead of the 2 at present. It will not have been decided by the U.S. Supreme Court by then. Obama will continue to hold some distance from the issue, as he did in his first campaign.
14) Race relations improve dramatically in the country. Thank God.
15) Illegal Immigration gets much, much worse. It will be one of the few criticisms the GOP can effectively make in the campaign.
Who would win such a 2012 election? I have no idea. But I will say, Obama will be even tougher to beat then, if he plays his cards right.
God Bless Barack Obama- it will be nice to have a President of whom everyone can say he clearly won by a decisive margin, and we all should respect him as such. I pray you will have much success and benefit our nation.

Here's why I think he probably has a good chance at re-election (silly as that sounds, before he's even inaugurated)....it seems that he's willing to listen, consider alternate options, seek out new ideas, and most importantly - adapt. George Bush had an enormous opportunity for a legendary seven years following 9-11, which was the last time the rest of the world seemed to be in our corner. Unfortunately, he seemed unwilling to listen and adapt - which frustrated us into the 20% approval rating he owns today.
One candidate you can probably erase from your list of possible contenders is Sarah Palin. I'm betting after all the "Africa/NAFTA" stuff came out on FoxNews today, she'll be destroyed in a primary.
I agree that he won't accomplish everything he has planned for his 4 year term but I think we all know that, including him. He's only human and there are only so many hours in a day. If he can get half of it done we'll be a better nation for it.
I totally agree that it's refreshing to have a competent, respected and understanding President on desk. I'm not old enough to say I remembered the 60's, but listening to the older people on Humzoo (and outside of this site) talk about all the frustrations and trials they witnessed during that time is absolutely amazing. We have made progress as a nation and more importantly as a mankind. It feels so good to finally say that.
I'll bookmark your blog under the "Things to revisit in 4 years" category. Thanks.
Russ- I think the Palin stuff this week is going to blow over 6 months from now. Most people will recognize it as the infighting that it is, and the Africa thing is so outlandish it is nearly impossible to believe, even if it is true. It is backlash from her dealings with the Couric interview. I see her winning re-election for governor in 2010. She's young enough, though, to put off a Presidential bid much longer, if desired. She'll certainly have to becoming a convincing force on national issues to have a shot at winning- and maybe she will have to get in the Senate first before she'll be amply ready.
I think the major issues of the 2012 campaign will be: energy, immigration, and the budget deficit. I HOPE terrorism/war is not a major part of the conversation then.
Gay marriage is legal in Mass and Conn. right now. I could easily see movements in Hawaii, Washington state, Oregon, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware spring up in the next 4 years. We shall see.
Are you predicting that either Hillary or Bill Clinton will be appointed to the US Supreme Court. As a Conservative, I hope you may be wrong but it may be one of those two because Bill wants his Legacy to continue.
Graham may run, but he doesn't have the personality to compete with the other folks.
My strong points that I used against Adlai Stephenson of Illinois was the lack of leadership on Stephenson's part. The points that I cited were: IKE making the critical decision to stick with the original D-DAY decision, the way that he handled the feud and ego trips between Patton and Montgomery. Also, I used the fact that he was proposing an Interstate Highway based on the Autobahn, and the fact that he was going to Korea to get peace talks started.
I also should say I predict we won't have the job explosion under Obama that we had under Clinton. Jobs will be a big issue in 2012. The main problem is one we can't ultimately avoid- the world economy will eventually level itself out, I believe.
My prediction is that you will be right on most of the items mentioned.....it will be interesting to review this in 4 years to see how close you were!!
Thanks for sharing your insight on this ~ you did miss one important factor...how will things be going with the Obama's new dog? He/she won't be a puppy in 4 years!!!
-The Clinton's will not be on the supreme court. I don't think I've ever heard anything so ridiculous in my life.
