Sunday, August 2nd, 2009CASH FOR CLUNKERS ? I had to go and pick up a neighbor that was dropping their car off for service at a new car dealership, near their closing time on Saturday. While waiting, I wondered out behind the dealership, killing time. Wow, what an education. They had all the clunkers that were traded in on new cars, in a field behind the dealership.
Guess what, they had people out there stripping the catalytic converters, and other items, which were stacked up in a company pickup ready to be carted away, to who knows where? They didn't seem to be taking parts that would hinder moving them out to the junk dealers. They even had a trailer out there full of tires, rims and hubcaps.
I guess its just a dealership perk, for extra amount of money they can extract from the taxpayers. Is there no end to the ways that scammers are taking advantage of the taxpayers?
Wish I'd had my camera with me.
Many dealers are not confident that they will get reimbursed and have thus cancelled the program.
Now a new bill is being passed through congress this week to supposedly add more money and clean up some of the details. Overall, I think the bureaucracy on this Cash for Clunkers was way too thick, although I think the govt did a very good job of limiting or even eliminating fraud on this program. The scary thing is that if they can screw up a simple $1 billion program then what will they do with healthcare.
By the way, I know all of this because I went through the process last Friday.
