Saturday, June 13th, 2009Why Smiling?
It's easy to see why these girls are smiling! This is Cami and Yeng Yeng, our guide's 3 year old daughter who have become best friends already. They are walking home from an outstanding local neighborhood noodle house. We had dumplings, noodles, spicy eggplant, pork and tofu stirfry, the best corn niblets with pine nuts and red beans, egg drop soup. An amazing and authentic Mongolian dinner, served at a table with a large Lazy Susan in the center for sharing.
To the girls' delight, dessert arrived about halfway through the meal. It was pieces of fried milk. I don't understand it completely, but it was so wonderful and even had sprinkles on top!
Here are the girls, along with travel buddy Chloe, back at our hotel. Chloe's mom and dad are getting a little boy, 2.5 years old tomorrow. I am crossing my fingers that Cami will love her sister as much and as fast as she has her two friends.
It's easy to see why these sweet girls are smiling.......but what about these other guys? What in the world do they have to smile about?
In the spirit of wasting nothing, these sheep heads are eaten by slicing thinly and that's it. Brains and bone I guess go together. We did not try this dish, but I saw it being served.
Sounds like Cami is having an amazing time already. With her open heart, I'm sure her new sister will be embraced like her other new friends. Sounds like things are going well and you are enjoying your trip.
Our guide's little girl goes to a bilingual preschool so she knows a few words in English......about as many as Cami knows in Chinese. It's fun to watch them because they have a language all their own.
