Thursday, September 25th, 2008Shoe shopping - China or the US? Maybe twice a year I shop for new shoes. And about once a year I actually buy new shoes. Last year I used Alibaba to find a retailer/manufacturer in China that would directly sell me the shoes I wanted. We exchanged about 5 emails of broken English to broker the deal. ("We make very happy business relationship and good service. Thank you for purchase.") After we translated each others emails and agreed to price, I crossed my fingers and sent a Paypal payment. Two weeks later my crisp new shoes arrived. 3 pairs for $110 including shipping. The quality was about 95% of that here in the states.

So this year, I'm starting the adventure over. Step 1 is doing a little online shopping.
I picked out about 10 finalists after searching through Zappos and Ebay this morning. Step 2 will be deciding to purchase within the US or to hustle a deal with a Chinese trading company.
Let me know which style you like most.

You're welcome. :)
by the way, footlocker is doing their 30% off deal this weekend. plus, fatwallet will give you 6% cash back if you click through their site. they give 6% on zappos, too, if you end up buying through them.
i'll check footlocker.
dannie, i assume most shoes are made outside the us other than new balance, not really sure though. it is kind of a gamble buying them without trying them on. you're right about them running a little small, the 3 pairs i purchased last year were a little snug.
#7 looks like the shoe that every 4th grader had at my elementary school.
Crawley voted for 3 and 8. He's also loving the Agassi's and was upset that the homemade faux fur CBZs weren't featured.
