Searching for Obsession

As I have said many times, I started blogging here for my own "accountability" in my weight loss efforts. I realize that most attempts at this difficult feat have their ups and downs.

Well, call this a down.

After a 12 pound loss, which I am very proud of, I have teetered on an uncrossable line for sometime now. Gain 2, lose 2. Gain 2, lose 2. With 2.5 weeks to go until my "goal date", it ain't lookin' purty.

5 pounds by then would make me happy. 7 would make me ECSTATIC!

So I set down this morning to find my obsession again. Yes, I know, some people consider "obsession" sort of a bad thing. But in this case it has worked for me in the past. Live it, breath it, DO IT! When I gather all my focus on my weight loss efforts, I seem to see big things happen in a short amount of time. So the question is, where do I find that "fire" or spark again?

As I sat pondering this morning, looking back over the tools that I have used to get me this far, I realized that one of them was getting lost in the shuffle. Humzoo. You know, the websites that "taste like cake", and can help you lose weight (well, me) only if you're going to do that you can't actually eat the cake??

Yup. That's one area that I have faltered in. I notice the ebb and flow of my progress thus far, and I see that when I am on here talking to me self (blogging) I seem to keep a better focus. I have said it many times before, half the game is the mind game.

So here I am, trying to re-focus. Grasping for a spark and a chance at those 7 pounds.

Can I do it???

1) Sure you can do it. I think the mind leads the body in everything. Do you run? I have dropped several pounds really fast when I ran or rode my bike daily for a couple of weeks. I don't usually have the motivation or discipline to do it regularly, but when my pants don't fit I get on the bike or the elliptical.

2) I mentioned it before on another blog, but check out the book, "Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?" I'm both a clutterer and a weight loss fighter so the title caught my eye and it was given a good rating on a website I frequent. If you aren't a clutterer in your home, you still might be a clutterer in your eating or lifestyle. Might check it out. It's a quick one to read--doesn't give you any fast weight loss ideas or exercise advise (other than do some!) but it does talk about common-sense and mindset. Worth a look. Might give you more ways to focus and help you identify the areas you need to work on more.

3) Not to make light of this at all, but I'm in construction and when I first started I used to do a lot of roofing. I dropped like 20 pounds in a matter of a couple months and was wasting away, although I was stronger than I had ever been, and eating a whole lot more than I did before. My co-worker and I used to joke that we'd start a weight loss company called 'Roof Your Ass Off'. It only pays about 10 bucks an hour, but you are guaranteed to lose tons of weight really fast, and never want to touch a roof shingle again.

4) Try a day or two of fruit fasting. Raw fruit only - any raw fruit, except not too many bananas. Sometimes it will be the turn that is needed.
But, really, you've done great! The body takes awhile to adjust before it will move further. You sound really serious about this, so with the continued exercise your body will slowly move out of it's lull.

5) Yes, I hit the gym 5 days a week. Cardio all 5 days (treadmill running/jogging intervals, elliptical, etc.) and strength train 3 of those days.

I'll check out the book. Sounds interesting! Thanks!

8) Come to think of it, I have a friend who owns a landscape business, and he too dropped 20 pounds as soon as his business (and summer) kicked up!

9) My husband just dropped 10 lbs doing chores like gardening and painting on the weekends instead of sitting on his butt watching sports. I don't know how long before it hits him that he has missed too many of his beloved Yankee games and I find him coach potatoing it again.
