Wet Dog
This morning, before I got my breakfast ready, I let Sam out in the garden as per daily routine. Whilst eating my breakfast, I noticed through the window that he had found a pleasing aroma in which he proceeded to roll. Knowing that he would be smelly, I made a mental note to wash him once I got home from work.

Anyone with a dog will know that they aren't terribly fond of baths and I think this must be because they hate nice smells. More specifically, they hate nice flowery/perfumy smells. Of course when you're grilling meat they salivate so some nice smells they do like. We know its not the act of being wet or getting cold because they'll gladly go out in bad weather, get wet and jump in lakes and ponds....especially labradors.

As soon as I touch the leash, Sam goes into a frenzy of excitement and I used this to get him into the back garden where I could wield the hose with abandon. So I put the end of the leash through my belt to keep him from running off leaving me with 2 hands free to soap him up.

Here he is as he realizes that he's been tricked and he's in for a soaking.

Then came the bath followed by lots of shaking and a long walk in the sun to dry him off.

2) ....so many jokes to make.....must resist.....

Sam is adorable. I'd go so far as to say he's as cute as my Sam. Say, maybe we should get our Sams together....for a cage match. Two go in, one comes out....

4) We had a Black lab before and I woke one morning to find him curled up dead. He was only 18 months old. We had a dogtopsy done and it turned out he had a congenital defect....one of the valves in his heart stuck open. So no ! we're not pet racists or anything :-)

Sally, I'd be happy for you to bring Sam around to meet Sam. Our Sam is very sweet and full of love. The only problem is he has no idea how big and strong he is and sometimes gets rather over-enthusiastic.

He is super cute for a dog but your Sam is a cat and, as such, wins the cuteness competition hands down.

6) I give you kudos for bathing that dog - we send ours out quarterly to get done, and it's worth every penny to me.

7) My Shepherd I had back in my dog training days was taught to stand for exam and gradually learned to stand and turn on command. I once lived in an apt. complex and bathed her where they had a hose for car-washing. She stood, suds-covered, and allowed me to hose her off, then I said "turn", she turned and I did the other side. Another tenant was apparently watching this performance, came by and said "if I tried that there would be a trail of suds heading off down the road". LOL

Her reward for this great behavior was playing with the hose after it was all over. She'd race back and forth, chasing it and biting it. We both got our reward. :)

8) Sam is pretty good and will stand still for the most part. He'll run off if he thinks we've finished when in fact I'm just pausing to take a picture for Humzoo. He certainly won't turn unless I give him a shove but he's remakably well behaved.

Thanks Leslie, he is indeed a big love. 110lbs of love and slobber is what we tell people. As far as the quality of the picture.....utter fluke. I press the button and there is a delay of a second or two so I just took a couple while he was in his shaking routine and those are the two I got out of pure luck. I'm very pleased though.
