Save our Parks

Illinois lieutenant governor, Pat Quinn, has started an online petition to save our state parks. Governor Blagojevich has decided to layoff 450 state workers and close 25 historic sites and state parks. So with high gas prices, high airline fares, and tighter family budgets not helped by Blagojevich's higher taxes, families in Illinois no longer will have the option of visiting many state sites come November first.

Please visit http://standingupforillinois.org/saveourparks/index.php and fill out a petition to keep these sites open. Use a fake name or two or three if you really feel inspired. Last time I checked the views of the people were supposed to matter in this country.

1) Yikes--that is really sad. I've been wondering during this fuel and economy crisis if state and local parks aren't actually benefiting from these issues. That obviously isn't the case in IL or the parks wouldn't be in such dire danger of being closed and workers laid off. Do I have to use a fake address too since I don't live in IL???? :) I'm willing to petition for you. I'm grateful that Oregon is very pro-park and would probably close the whole city up before a park.

7) JDI, come on man, have you no heart? I'm sure the Governor would love to keep Illinois' parks and historic sites open but he has a jet to reupholster because he refuses to live in the capital city of the state in which he's GOVERNOR so that his kids won't be uprooted. So, it's really about the kids. Joe, why do you hate children?

8) He doesn't hate children per se, just children with East European sounding names.

9) Thanks for putting up this link, Joe. I hope everybody will go there and sign the petition. It makes me very sad to hear that many of our state parks and also historical sites will be closing. It just seems criminal to me. Tourism is such a big business for Illinois. Why would they close historical sites????? And the parks? It seems that Blagojevich is just picking on us little guys.....again. Save our parks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SallyPants and Mrs. Shoo - Thanks for saying what I don't dare. These days Illinois has become a sad state in which to live.
We need to take the boys to see the Dana Thomas house before it is closed forever. (Frank Lloyd Wright design ~ for those not from Springfield)
