Bad Day
I don't know what's going on today. Something's not right. The morning started off alright. Had a small hiccup when I got to work and realized that today was trash day and I had again forgotten to take the full trash cans out to the edge of the driveway. No biggie. Can't sweat the small stuff. We had a webinar about a new process for repairs at work and lunch was provided so that was a plus. The video feed crashed in the middle so we put an end to the meeting. After lunch I answered the phone and a familiar voice on the other end of the line sounded different than usual. One of Kati's co-workers who is usually very upbeat and full of laughter was very serious and direct. She told me that Kati was hunched over and sick. With the gall bladder issues she has been having recently I rushed to pick her up. We took Charlotte home and called the doctor and asked my mom to babysit. The doctor sent us the ER for testing. This is the third time now for this. We waited awhile for test results and got them back with news that the computer system in the ER had been down causing delay. Luckily, they were not going to admit Kati today. They wanted her to report to the doctor first thing in the morning. We headed home to see Charlotte. Apparently there are still bills coming in for the birth of our almost 3 month old. This never makes me happy especially since our dryer just died the other day, but I was doing alright with it. I needed to get something to eat so I threw a small pizza in the oven. I must have waited to long because it came out a little done. No biggie.
As I cut the medium-well pizza I heard a very strange noise just to my left. I was being spattered with something. It was raining outside and in the kitchen a small hole in the ceiling had presented itself in the form of a stream of water spattering across boxes of noodles. We have never had leaks in this house. The roof is fairly new and in good shape, but with the rain and darkness I can't inspect the outside portion. I'm frustrated at this point, but things get really stupid when I hear a loud humming in the basement. I went downstairs to see the rains had made their way into the basement and our sump pump was clogged up. The water was rising and threatening to disable our brand new furnace.
The good news is Kati is home tonight, Charlotte is doing great, the dripping in the kitchen has stopped, I fixed the sump pump, and tomorrow is a brand new day.
What is the saying? When it rains it pours. You guys are overdue for some good weather.
Another thing - whatever problems develop, things could have been worse. Here's an example from a person I know. Her basement has a concrete floor, above those were placed 2 X 4s and then a wooden floor on top. The sump pump, that was less than one year old, didn't make any humming noise for her like yours did - it just plain didn't work at all! The last I heard the water level was above her wooden floor!
hopefully once kati is all better from her surgery things will get better, having a sick momma and an infant is super stressful. good luck.
