"Is there a doctor in the house?"
Long story short - Kati and I just got out of Wal-Mart after a three hour stay. We went in early for eye exams. They ran an hour late getting us into the doctor and because of that we got locked in. Strong winds and rotation caused Wal-Mart to go into "code black." All customers were told to get to the center of the store. During our wait for the weather to calm down employees walked around yelling, "Is there a doctor in the house?" Apparently at the same time as the storm and "code black," a woman was going into labor. Paramedics came in and took care of the situation. Kati overheard that the woman had a baby boy.

Uncomfortable closeness to strangers.

Check out the devil horns.

Help arrives.

Congratulations, "Wal-Mart baby."

1) Not quite like Bek's home birth, more like "home and garden birth".

3) That's such an awesome story. Although not so much that you had to stay in Wal-mart for so long.

5) Who knows what this woman had planned for her childbirth, but it all went out the window. I turned to Joe and said "If you had Biker Ben's phone number you could call him to get down here, cause this will be a hell of a story!"

6) In related news from the future, local citizen Brody Daryl Dogleg, born at Walmart during the great storms way back in 2008, has been promoted to Front Lanes Supervisor for the night shift. Brody, who turned 52 recently, has worked at Walmart for the last 36 years. Seven of his children are also employed by the same Walmart.

10) I love Dave's blurb about it. Imagine the stories later in life. Like City Slickers, his mom will call him and relate the story of his birth in the local Wal-Mart and how Joe was there and blogged it on Humzoo. Dylan and Ethan will be running Humzoo by then. Mia seems more destined to a musical career.

11) def made a beat call about this. Walmart execs shot me down...but someone in automotive spilled the beans. Apparently she did not have the baby in Walmart. I'm in the works to track her down.

13) Does Walmart give you some kind of prize if you pop the baby out in the store? Like free Sam's Choice formula? or discount GreatValue onsies? Hmm this might not be such a bad deal afterall... might need to explore the possibilities before November.

14) You get a prize in the hospital. You get things to take home with you.....I forget exactly but a bag, whatever daipers didn't get used from the packet, whatever visitors bring.....and the best is the peace of mind that there are professionals there to help in case of complications. Not so much peace of mind when there is just some random person wearing a bib saying "Can I Help You?" I doubt you can!

15) This is true. But I also doubt that Walmart would send me quite the bill that the hospital would. I'm just saying this Walmart baby thing might have an up-side to it.
I mean I realize there are "professionals" and all at the hospital, but hospitals smell funny. And if I plan it right, it could be free sample day at Walmart.
Look, the pros are really starting to outweigh the cons here.
