Another motivating factor in the remodel is Kati's ever growing Teapot collection. Those cabinets have no less than eight layers of paint on them. Zero of those layers were put on by us. Zero were probably put on by the last owners of the house, which means at least seven of those layers are lead-based. Yum.

1) Lowe's has a simple test kit for lead base paint. If you decided to strip it be sure to wear a mask.

2) I once saw a show on BBCAmerica called Changing Rooms where one of the designers made this super-cool suspended-type shelving for the homeowner's teapot collection, and well, you can guess what happened. Yes - it snapped...suspension wires were too tight / teapots were too heavy. They destroyed about 50 pieces of her collection; she was devastated. So, don't do that, Joe.
