My name is Leslie & I am a blogger

My name is Leslie and I am a first time blogger. I hope this doesn’t become an addiction that will result in my needing a 12 step program.

When I decided to join Humzoo I didn’t actually intend to blog. Instead I wanted to support the guys who started the site so I made what I considered to be a $25.00 donation to a good cause. Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself so let me rewind a bit. I first learned about Dave Heinzel and his friend Shoo (of Gotshoo.com) when I saw a web cast interview they did on blogging for WICS TV in Springfield, Illinois. Curious, I checked out Dave’s site (daveheinzel.com) and found myself enchanted by his clever, hilarious videos (skateboarding in slo mo and building a snowman with Ethan are my personal favs). I then visited gotshoo.com and checked out Chris’ site where I discovered his “international stars” (dogs) and adorable wife. Wow I thought this is kind of like being a Peeping Tom! I found myself wondering if Mrs. Shoo was feeling better yet after her painful tonsillectomy. What??? This is crazy…I don’t even know these people!!

So here I am writing my first ever blog, wondering as I nervously prepare to shoot this off into cyberspace if I will receive any comments. Wish me luck!

P.S. My digital camera is not working. I realize that I must quickly replace it so that I can photographically document my life with pictures. I recognize that in the blogging world a picture truly is worth a thousand words.

1) Welcome to Humzoo, Leslie. It definitely can become an addiction. Your profile says you live in CT. Just curious- how did you come across the WICS piece?

2) Welcome to Humzoo Leslie! What a cool story. I agree following personal blogs is a very unique hobby, and sometimes the results are never what you imagined. I started following Dave's site years ago after learning about it through his cousin Sarah. I too was mesmerized by his witty videos and interesting blogs. I had a similar site (dennydeaton.com) at the time and found that Dave and I had a lot in common. Little did we know that we'd actually build a blogging site for everyone else one day. We've never met (that is about to change in a few weeks) but I feel like I know him and his family better than some of our local friends.

3) Sally, I know the reporter who did the WICS report on blogging. I follow his news reports via the web cast...in fact , 3-5 days a week I can tell you what the forecast is for Springfield. Unfortunately the lousy Illinois weather often arrives in Connecticut 2 days later. At least I'm prepared!

4) Welcome to Humzoo Leslie! Glad you like it. I made it all by myself, from scratch. I even created the coding language we program in. Watch out for a guy named Denny. He claims to know me and even have a hand in this site, but really he's just a washed up karaoke artist from Reno who is out to ruin my life. He smells of roast beef and cottage cheese, and he mostly shows up around full moons and lunar eclipses. Just a warning.

Thanks for the shout-out to my site. I hope to get back into making some videos in the very near future.

5) Dave, I am expecting to see a video of the long anticpated Deaton- Heinzel face to face meeting. I am anticipating a sword fight and/or a jousting exhibition. Anything less will disappoint.

6) Leslie you're too nice. Mrs. Shoo is doing well. I commented to her today that she needs to do a follow up with the blogging community. Stop by the blog sometime and leave a comment. I promise we don't bite.

Adding you to my list of favorites.

7) Hey Leslie, Its nice to hear from someone else who lives in a small town. This blogging thing is catching and I check in often to see what everyone is up to. I haven't quite figured out the photo thing but hope to get it going soon. I am a retired nurse and I tink what you ae doing is great. I hope in our life time we see the cure for breast cancer.

8) Leslie, I actually bought an easy share last year to take to Alasks. I love it. Its not the camera thats a challenge its the computer. As you can see I did figure out how to get the pictures on the site but I still need a little work as my daughter (Spike/Sarah) pointed out but hey, you can't have everything. I would say at least half of my girl friends have problems sleeping and I don't know any men who do. My Dad required very little sleep and use to annoy his neighbors by mowing the lawn at 5am. Its not that I don't need it - I just seem to have a hard time sleeping at times. Its cold, damp and rainy here today and I don't feel inspired to do anything-we went to the "big" city today, Winston-Salem and I am sitting here half watching CSI reruns and playing with Humzoo.

9) You are one up on me. I read the Easy Share directions, took a picture, but I don't have a clue how to get it to Humzoo. If it takes me all night I will figure it out!
I fear your cold rainy weather is heading my way. It was almost 50 degrees today and the sun was shining brightly. Ahhhh...signs of spring, I saw a robin red breast and jumped for joy.
Good luck with sleeping. At least you don't have to get up and go to work tomorrow...lucky you!

10) I don't have the ability to plug my chip from my camera into my computer so I either take it to the drugstore and use their kiosk to put the pictures on CD or I can use my husband's computer which will take the chip. I then "upload" the pictures to a file on my computer which for right now is under documents. We have a photoshop type program on my husband's computer but I am lazy and like sitting here in my recliner rather than go to the "guy room" and endanger my life trying to get through his "stuff" to get to the computer.(This is his room and I have promised not to disturb anything and he stays out of my studio- a very happy arangement:>.

11) Thanks for the info. I am having no luck despite the fact that have a USB link between my camera and computer. I'll table it until later.
I think I'll go watch Oprah's Big Give show. That always makes me feel good.

12) Hi Leslie! Congrats on being a Humdinger!! I'm just a lowly member and D & D fan. I TiVoed the Big Give, so I'd better not read anything until I watch it. Hope it was a good one.

13) The one day I don't check Humzoo....my mom joins. And I like the fact how you are doing it secretly......"i know a reporter who did the story on blogging". Well I am sorry....but as a reporter I must break the news.... Leslie is my mother...and a devout follower of Springfield, Illinois news......some days more than me (maybe even most days). She knows my co workers better than me....she certainly knows the weather better than me. And I love her for it! GLAD YOU JOINED. I KNEW YOU COULDN'T HOLD OUT!!!! Now that I have outed your secret identity you can blog about your secret love of Springfield. Looking forward to reading your posts. Although I am pretty sure 3 out of 4 will be about Oprah and Reality Shows. :)

14) I love this intergenerationalsite. Its so much fun to be part of the communication going on and actually making new friends. Hopefully ond daywe can have a Humzoo family reunion.

15) OMG...I can't believe you outed me! I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to figure out that 2 people that have a connection to Northwest CT weren't somehow related. I thought you might not want to publicize the fact that your "mommy dearest" was now a blogger. Of course that was before I realized that half the people on Humzoo are related to each other.

16) Hi Leslie, From one mother (I am Dave Heinzel's mother) to another, welcome to Humzoo!!! And I am a big fan of Ben's....what a cute guy and what a nice person (you can tell by his comments on Humzoo!). Plus he's doing a great job on Channel 2. Springfield is lucky to have him, although I know it's the pits for you....having one so far away. I have one in Philadelphia and it's too far!!!! But thanks to all the electronics we have today, the world is much smaller than it used to be.

17) Haha, so when you said you "know the reporter who did the WICS report on blogging," what you really meant was that you gave birth to him! That's great. Do we get to hear any embarrassing childhood stories about a certain Springfield reporter? :)

18) Dear Dave & Sally's Mother,

Thank you for your kind words about Ben. His dad and I certainly get a kick out of him. He loves what he is doing and it shows in his stories. I went to Springfield for a quick visit in December and was very impressed with the friendliness of people. Great shopping too! I am guilty as charged of watching the wics.com news daily to see our star reporter in action. I'm not alone. There are quite a few Ben fans in CT and across the country.

I don't know whether there was something in the water you drank when you were pregnant with your children or maybe there is a genetic factor but they are both very very funny. Are there other Heinzel children? When you all get together it must be a laugh riot.

19) Hi Leslie, You found great shopping in Springfield??? I'd like to know where!!! I've complained about the shopping here for years!!! Yes, we have another offspring. He's a doctor in Philadelphia. I guess you'll have to ask his patients if he has a sense of humor!! I don't know where the humor came from - I really don't - but, yes, growing up with our three there was never a dull moment. You never knew what was coming next! They are all very bright and creative and happy people and we are very blessed! (Kids, now don't go and embarrass us!) And yes, our gatherings now are a lot of fun!

20) You have to realize that I live in the boonies so having a Pier One or other chain type store close by is exciting. I have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest decent sized mall. I do have the advantage of being in between Boston and New York (2 hours away). I did have one funny experience shopping in Springfield. Ben & I asked at one of the stores where would could find some nice posters to frame because we were decorating his apartment. The woman directed us to this store that was like stepping back into the 70's. Lots of black light psychedlic groovy stuff to chose from. Not exactly what we had in mind. Overall I really was impressed by Springfield. Next trip I am going to check out the Lincoln museum. I hear it is a must see.
How come you aren't signed up as a blogger?

21) I am glad you liked my cat in the basket picture-thats from my Kodak easy share.I was surprised how well my pictures translated to the site. I like your orchid-you almost have it figured out. I think it is interesting to see how all the people are linked to each other on this site. My oldest son, Matt was a reporter when he first got out of college but decided that it wasn't the right career for a family man.
