Cruising On Home

It is the final evening of our Eastern Caribbean cruise and time to reflect on the adventure. I heard some negative reports before I left CT about the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (mostly that the food wasn't good) so I was a little nervous. We did get off to a rocky start when we had to change cabins following a burst water pipe (this of course occurred after we had completely unpacked). However that is the only thing that went wrong the entire 10 days and it was just a minor inconvenience. The size of the ship was a little overwhelming at first (according to the Captain if you stood the ship on end it would be as tall as the Empire State Building). I quickly figured out which of the 15 different bars had the best views, least crowd and the best martinis. We went dancing at the club several times and that was a blast. There was an ice skating rink and an ice show which I figured would be hokey, but turned out to be excellent. All of the dialysis patients stayed healthy during the trip so Bill was able to relax! The weather was hot and sunny.

The food was really excellent, albeit way too plentiful. It is going to be hard to not get eggs cooked to order and all the yummy fresh fruit every morning. Sigh! You could eat yourself sick on a cruise ship if you were so inclined. The promenade deck served great pizza, sandwiches, pastries and a variety of cookies 24 hours a day. There was a huge gym on board so I made myself go every day to try and counter balance the great food I couldn’t resist.

I also trained for an upcoming 5K road race by jogging around the track at the top of the ship. We met some interesting people, including our dinner table mates who were loads of fun. Every evening our cabin steward created a new animal out of towels to leave on our bed along with a chocolate.

It is home and back to reality tomorrow. I feel very well rested and re-energized. I guess when the biggest decision of the day is what to have for dinner it’s hard not to relax. Kudos to the wonderful staff on RC’s Explorer of the Seas!

1) I love the towel animals--very creative and fun. Sounds like a great trip but it will be hard to get back to not being catered to and waited on, I'm sure. What a great trip.
2) Glad to hear you had a good cruise -I hope you have at least a day off to get your bearings. I always hated to go on a trip and not have a t least one day at home as a buffer.Do you have any more trips planned?
3) That is a really large ship! Looking at the picture, it has so many windows. And the fact that it has an ice rink is amazing to me! Glad you had a fun and relaxing cruise!
4) Sounds like you had a wonderful adventure!! Way to go! You must have lots of terrific memories!!
5) We love to cruise so I can well understand all the fun you had....and also the excellent food!!! Fresh pineapple never tasted so good as it did on board our cruise ship. We're going to take our whole family on a Caribbean cruise in January....can't wait. Glad you had a good time. Good for you for getting to the gym. I always find that VERY hard to do!! It's always hard to get home and not be waited on hand and foot every minute....but you have some wonderful memories!!
6) ! where are you cruising to with the family in January?
7) How many passengers were on board? I heard about a RC ship that could hold 3,800 passengers!! That is HUGE!
8) We're cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale and stopping in Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Mexico, and the Bahamas. We're cruising on Princess and going on a new ship called Ruby Princess which holds 3500 passengers! We're really looking forward to cruising with all our children and our two wonderful grandchildren!
9) I wanna go with you !
10) we're going to Ft. Lauderdale in Aug. but will go from there to Brian's!
11) Come go with us, Sludge!! What are you going to Ft. Lauderdale for?
12) We can get a direct flight from here to there and really cheap on Jet Blue! We have done this twice now....fly there and then drive to Brian's!
13) Oh, I see. It sounded like you were going to Ft. Lauderdale for some other reason and then going to Brian's. What are you going in August for? (not that you ever need a reason to go see them but I just wondered if there was something special going on in August)
14) That sounds like a great itinerary and what a perfect time of year for a warm get away! The kids will have a blast. Cruise lines have the BEST programs for children.
15) Unfortunately our grandchildren are quite young - just 3 and 2 at that time - but we have to go when we can go. We don't know what tomorrow holds. I think the three-year-old (almost 4) will understand what is going on and be able to enjoy it. The two-year-old will enjoy all the food! (although maybe by then when she's two she won't have such a voracious appetite)
16) It looks gorgeous, and I love the towel monkey!
17) What a fabulous trip! I'm so jealous! I can't wait to see more photos of your adventures.
18) looks like it was a blast! Who did you dance with? I can;t picture the old man dancing....or does he have some secret tricks up his sleeve?
19) Oh yeah...he likes to boogie oogie until he just can't boogie no more.
20) Those towels are cool! And WOW! Big ship. Sounds like you had a great time.
21) that sounds so great!!
22) I love Royal Carib's food but I like Carnivals 24 hour pizza station better because they have more of a variety. Man, we try to cruise once a year but could not fit it into the budget this year. I will have to live vicariously through you... so tell me, what else did we do on this trip?
23) We slept many hours and we relaxed. There was a 24 hour pizza station on our ship. We were forced to partake. We had fun. So glad you could join us!!!
