Trail Tale

I don't usually go into the woods much in July and August because of the bugs, but I decided that my pants were getting snug and I needed to burn some calories. It was quite pleasant on the way up the mountain. However on my way down every insect in a mile radius must have smelled my sweat and zoomed in for the kill. I practically ran back to the car. The bottom section of the trail goes through some wetlands along a boardwalk.

Because it has been a wet summer there were plenty of interesting mushrooms. This one looked like you could top it with butter and syrup and have it for breakfast.

Here are a few more interesting varieties I spotted.

The wild flowers were beautiful.

The best part is always making it to the top for the view.

I don't think I'll be back in the woods again for a few weeks. I'll wait for the insects to take a hike.

1) I can sympathize about the insects. My biggest complaint about MN. I'd go walking with my dog in the wee hours and learned to avoid the grass areas and move fast to avoid mosquitoes, gnats and deerflies. I can see why you felt the temptation, though. Awesome view and great photos of the interesting flora and fungi on the walk. I love little bridges like that through boggy areas but you do pay a price for that bog. :)

Insects, be forewarned, your days are numbered! :)

4) Wow! How lucky are you to have such a beautiful area to take a walk! I'm so jealous! Hope the bugs subside in a couple of weeks for your next walk.
