Welcome To The Neighborhood (Part I)
Welcome to Morris, CT, population approximately 2,000.

Morris is a pretty typical New England town. Each town has a ""green" that is usually right in the center. Concerts are held on the green during the summer.

On the green is the elementary school that my children attended.

And the Congregational Church

Morris is the home of Bantam Lake, the largest natural lake in the state.

Morris boasts a 4,000 acre nature preserve called White Memorial Conservation Center that has dozens of hiking trails, a river for kayaking and canoeing and many small streams and ponds. It is a great place to cross country ski and snowshoe in the winter.

This is the conference center
.
A stones throw from our house is a beautiful horse farm called Far Meadow. The grounds and barns are meticulously manicured.

A few years ago the Catholic church down the road was sold. To our delight a Buddhist temple took it's place. It is quite a sight. They invite the neighbors to a party twice a year. It is next weekend and I am hoping to go.

Another surprise ocurred 2 years ago when an exclusive resort was built in our town. It is called Winvian and it houses 19 cabins, each with a different theme related to Connecticut. One cabin has a complete helicopter in it (the theme is the CT helicopter company Sikorsky), another is a three story tree house, etc. etc. Each cabin was designed by a different architect. The price tag per NIGHT to stay at Winvian starts at $1,000.00.

You can check out the website at:

My kids thought Morris was a pretty dull place to grow up. I think they now have an appreciation that there is something pretty unique about the place they call their hometown.
