January 12th
This was my first day at home alone after having Steve home for a week. I was extremely tired and Katherine was headed to the sitters for the day. She had a very low-grade fever the day before and some coughing, but she seemed okay that morning. So I load both girls up in the car and take her to the sitter's house. I explained about the fever from the day before and told her if Katherine seemed sick at all to give me a call.

I drive home and think to myself I should grab a shower while I can. As I'm walking in the door to the house my cell phone rings once. No other rings followed, but I had a feeling it was our sitter. I call her back and she said Katherine had thrown up an orange. She offers to wait and watch her to see if she would get better or worse, but I decide to go back and get her. I hadn't even unbundled Elizabeth from her car seat, so now was probably the time to go.

The babysitter and I both agreed that it was probably just phlegm in her throat and the coughing made the orange "reappear." Regardless, I didn't think anyone else should have to deal with my potentially sick child. So we gathered her things and drove home. So much for naps and a day of quiet. I was anticipating a stressful day with a very active three year old and a new baby.

When we got home I unbundled the girls and put Elizabeth in her bassinet. She was sleeping and Katherine was looking fine, so I decided to try to get a shower in before possible chaos set it. While in the shower, Katherine asked me if she could get the baby's "pink thing." I thought she was talking about a tiny stuffed doggy. The week prior Katherine kept wanting the doggy I the bassinet with Elizabeth so from the shower I told her she could get the pink dog. When I got out of my "fast a lighting" shower I went in the bedroom to check on Elizabeth. There I found her with the puppy above her head and a second "pink thing"- a pink blanket covering the bottom part of the blanket she was swaddled in. Katherine was sitting in the rocker chair with her magna doodle. She said "I'm drawing a picture for her." The picture below is her drawing.

I thought "How sweet! What a great start to this day maybe it won't be so bad after all."

1) Lucy has a very similar drawing device although still nowhere near the artistic talent as Katherine.

2) Those drawing things are cool!!, My Nephew has one… You can actually do shading. When the stylus is right above the surface (not touching) less of the magnetic stuff is pulled to the surface and it makes a lighter line, as opposed to when you place the stylus directly on the pad.

3) How sweet. Looks like you have a great "little helper" on your hands. I am hoping having a girl first means lots of helping when we have a 2nd child some day.

4) That is really sweet! I was so afraid the story was leading to something bad - not knowing what "the pink thing" was going to be.

5) I was wondering too, Franklins. Glad it all turned out better than expected. Even without the day of quiet and maybe a nap.

6) Katherine is truly a great helper. She loves her sister so much, and says so all the time. Our problem has been keeping germy hands off Elizabeth. Like any three year old she just doesn't understand. I'm pretty sure without meaning any harm it was those little hands that helped Elizabeth get RSV. It is harder to keep the second baby healthy when you've already got a toddler in the house.

7) Well, I guess they say a certain about of germs are good for you. Does Katherine like hand sanitizer? I could bring you guys some "pretty" stuff to use to get clean.

8) I agree about some germs being good for you and I have never been very germaphobic. Katherine has bubble gum scented hand soap that she loves... it is just that she doesn't think much about touching her nose, mouth etc. and then touching Elizabeth. I think my concerns have been more about having a newborn during the "cold" season with a toddler that goes to both preschool and a babysitter.

9) Yeah I know what you mean. Daycare is sooooo very full of germs. We have a runny nose and then it clears up and we get one again a week later. I will be glad to see spring!
