Random Today Thoughts

I hate that I let others make me hate shopping. Why do people stop in the middle of the isle at Wal-Mart to look at something 3 feet away all the while completely blocking the walk way? I was in Wal-Mart yesterday for 2 hours, waiting on Richie's prescription. I can't begin to tell you how many times I said, "Excuse me" and "I'm sorry." Only to recieve looks of entitlement. One lady thanked me for moving out of the way. I told her that she was the only person to thank me for moving. She laughed and denied the truth of it. I insisted and she laughed as she moved on. Then when I left the store and pushed my cart to the car I saw something else that really grinds my gears. A young woman was unloading her car and instead of pushing her empty cart to the cart return which she PARKED NEXT TO she pushed it to the front of her car and left it. Laziness at its best!

After checking the weather last night it appears that by the time we're ready to leave (in a few days Yippe) Flagstaff will have accumulated about 18 inches. So we're going to take a more southern route to get to Albuquerque. Oklahoma and Arkansas are getting some icky stuff but we have been assured that it will be gone by the time we hit those states.

The Christmas presents are wrapped. Who knew we got that much stuff. We're starting a pile in the living room of all the stuff we need to take with us. The pile is slowly growing ... I think soon it will be larger than the car! And that does not even include the clothes. LOL That is a totally different pile in the bedroom floor.

Today is Wednesday, and I've not even started baking yet. Monday was a sickly day for me...took me all day long to wrap presents and it flowed into Tuesday. I think maybe I need to get in the kitchen. To clean then to bake.

My mind is racing. I'm so afraid that I'm going to forget something.

Lists! You will probably have plenty of access to a washing machine so don't pack everythin you own like I usually do.LOL

I'm the same way Ashley, and I don't even have to travel. I'm with dannie though. I've got lists all over the place of what needs bought, and what needs baked or made before Christmas Eve.

I have the same issues with idiots at Walmart or at the grocery store, but I will confess to being an OLD lady who will not walk to put my cart in the cart corral in two instances: 1) pouring down rain and 2) below freezing temps--frankly, they're luck I'm there to spend my money on days like those. Besides, that's why they pay the cart boys the big bucks, in my opinion. HA!

PS. Do you have a list for everything you need to take on your trip? That would give me peace of mind...

Sounds like you have a plan in place albeit a rough outline. Take it one hour at a time. The more I fret, the more I seem to defeat myself. I've been working on baking, wrapping, packing, shipping all week and I'm a little worn from it all--not to mention the difficult weather. But, I take a break when I need it and focus on the moment more than the panic of the end of the day and it gets done--or worse case, like Dannie said, they have a washer there to lessen the need for more clothes. :)

Speaking of the rude shoppers, my peeve is the ones who get on the phone and chat in front of where you want to get things. I want to say "shop or go talk on the phone--you can't seem to do both". As bad as people with cell phones in traffic. Totally "out there" and not aware of the world around them.

We do have lists, but not everything makes it. Dannie, I'm sure because of Richard you will understand it when I say I have a hard time remember lots of things. :) I am trying to make sure we have enough underwear to last us...I'm not sure if we do or not. We'll just have to run out I guess. At his parents house everyone is up and dressed even if you don't leave the house. My folks are the opposite. It is common to not get dressed for a whole week! We'll probably just hang out in pj's most of the time. Richie will be working in the OKC and the Little Rock office so I feel obligated to pack dress clothes for work. *sigh* We're going to be gone for 3-4 weeks. So I figure 2 weeks worth of cloths will need to be washed.

Linda, I'm totally like you in how I just spin my wheels and get nothing accomplished. All I got done today was cleaning the kitchen. I'm going to re-evaluate the clothing situation tonight and just pack it up and forget about it (i think). I might bake tomorrow now that the kitchen is clean. Friday is going to be an "out and about" day, tires rotated, drop off stuff at the church and maybe get my hair trimmed up.

You know that Disneyland commercial where the little boy says, "I'm too excited to sleep!" That is me!!!

Ashley, I'm baking burned-out so I admire you for wanting to mess up your kitchen while trying to get read for a month gone and all the prep for packing and planning. Baking would take a backseat--even for me! I did just finish the PB Truffles up with maybe 12 truffles. I've got them in the freezer to dip in the AM and put out for the mail carrier when he picks up my last 6 boxes for shipment. Did I mention I love carrier pickup?? :)

Have a good day tomorrow. I'm ready to crash after nearly 2 solid weeks of baking, prep for bake day, wrapping gifts, packing and shipping said gifts and baking a bit more for a couple of office groups.

I need a nap--glad you are too excited to sleep. Don't keep Richie up. LOL

He is always a good sport if I do keep him up. He had a nap tonight--2 hours! If anyone deserves to crash it is you!!!!!! Maybe santa will bring you a good rest for the holidays. Packages don't just leave your house, they arrive too. ;-)

Ugh. I've had the same problems shopping. I get so incredibly annoyed. I can handle traffic, crowds, and lines with some patience, but I get so torked when people are so inconsiderate in the stores.

Wal-mart, UGH. I despise the place, yet find myself there almost daily. The sales people are rude, and you have to wait in line forever to check out. I am avoiding getting a video game for my child because you can never find anyone to open the cabinet in electronics and get it for you. I think that I am going to Target today........

I worked at Wal-Mart for over a year. I was a cashier, a customer service clerk and finally a merchandise claims assoc. That's when I got off the sales floor and to the warehouse processing defective and returned items. That was my favorite of the three because I was able to avoid customers. Once as a cashier, a woman, who hadn't waited in my line long, began throwing (literally) her items one by one onto my belt. I spoke plesantly to her "Hello". Got no response. Once she finished throwing her items onto the belt she approached the register itself. I again politely addressed her and got an extremely angry, rude, growled response from her. I asked if I'd offended her or upset her. Evidently I had opened Pandora's Box with my question because she used that as an opportunity to rant about how horrible the store was, the employees were, the prices, the lines, the bathrooms... on and on and on. I stopped ringing her items, looked her square in the face and asked, "Then why do you bother coming in here at all? If you hate it so much and it makes you so angry go away and don't shop here anymore." This would have enflamed most customers but not her. Her attitude changed 180degrees at that point. She was polite and smiley and said thank you when she left. Wal-Mart shoppers, in general, can be a fickle breed.

Enjoy the drive! I've driven (or actually been a passenger) from Cali (near SF) to Texas (Austin) a few times, as well as many other drives. Hopefully the weather will be nice to you.

I've been on both sides--retail person and customer. I like the options at Wal-Mart but agree it is generally an unfriendly place for service. Then again, I used to feel the same about Target. Used to be impossible to get anyone to assist--now I get asked 10 times if I need help. Wal-Mart may have the better pricing but Target seems to have the better service. Maybe the logic is you deal with abuse to get deals like superstores that have no help and act like you bother them by being there--amazing that we accept that as par for the course to get great buys. Both sides need to remember to be behaved. You tend to get what you dole out.

Hope you got all your prep work done and didn't push too much. I got my candies all dipped by 6:30 AM and baked a trio of cakes tonight (from one recipe) and may take on the homemade caramels before the night is over. Working from home always gives me time back and my sanity. Unfortunately tomorrow is back in the office so I'll be less productive and more anxious for day's and week's end to get out of there again. :)

I got everything done yesterday, including pre and post kitchen clean-up.

Woo-hoo! Good job! Sounds like you are ready to head out tomorrow!

I've still got to hang curtains because the blinds are still not up on all the windows. I want to get the carpet vaccumed a little and make sure there is nothing in the fridge that will spoil. I'm not free and clear by any means. LOL
