Politics we can all agree on. I think.

Now that the bailout bill has passed, I think it is a prime example of the problems with Washington. What started out as a three page document focusing only on the problem at hand has swelled to 451 pages in its final format. This new bill is filled with pork and other items that may seem important to each side, but jeepers creepers why the heck cant they stay focused.

With all of the talk about pork in the campaigns, this could have been a great time for either candidate to point out exactly how corrupt the process is. I dont understand why any bill has to be loaded with superfluos items.

This is what really makes me sick.

Here is a link to the entire bill:

http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/senate...

For example:

1. There a renewable energy tax credits in this bill. Although some may view this as a good thing on its own, it has nothing to do with AIG or Wall Street.

2.There are provisons in it for mental health insurance coverage.

3. There are provisions for tax credits for energy efficient appliances.

and more, and more and more.

1) Never give a politician and open bill because they have knack for making bills like the Bailout grow, exponentially.

3) I have never claimed to be a financial genius, because

#1 I am not and
#2 I don't want to be

But I still don't support this bailout which goes against a key Republican principle. Gee, we really taught all those banks and lending institutions a lesson didn't we? I bet they'll never do that again. The fact is they were counting on this and knew that Congress would cave in and bail them out. Whatever happened to capitalism. Let them fall flat on their faces! Utter ridiculousness. Instead of using that money for a bailout, let's take a fraction of that money and put it towards something else that creates jobs, like the Eisenhower freeway did.

5) HAW HAW HAW!!! I thought your boy McCain (according to last Friday’s debate) is now running his campaign on cutting pork barrel spending? He promised to veto the first bill on his desk that included pork barrel spending. He told us he’d teach them a lesson and "make famous" the politician who had the nerve to ask for an earmark. What a pervert, like me!

8) If "Charming Nancy Pelossi" had not pissed off some of her own party (93-I believe) and a vast number of the Republicans this thing would have been finished.

9) Bean, your comment makes no sense. So Republicans voted against the bailout bill because Pelosi pissed them off with a speech aimed at Bush’s economic failures?

Country First - As long as mean ole Nancy Pelosi doesn’t hurt our feelings!

HAW HAW HAW I am registered on the sex offender list!

11) You missed the part about tax exemptions for people who make wooden arrowtips.... (can't you just feel the Dow rising as you read those words? I'm not even beginning to kid you on this one.)

Just shows how deep the creative corruption flows in Washington D.C.

13) soundchick- just like all the Senators, I didn't read the whole thing. HT to Bret Baier who somehow sniffed this out with the help of his assistants.

In fact, I didn't even read one word of the document.

15) I don't understand it. The only thing I can come up with, besides corruption and selfishness, is that is has become so impossible for good bills(not including wooden arrow tip allocation) to get passed that every time they have one they know will fly, they tack on all of this other stuff. Don't they do a budget? It seems like they should only be allocated so many funds per year for these programs, or no funds, and have to include them openly and individually on the budget. The remainder should be set aside for emergencies and unforseens. That's kinda how everyone else works a budget, right? Why shouldn't our government be expected to do the same?

16) You can call your rep in the house and tell them they need to "move to sever" the economic bailout portions from the bill and then vote in favor of that reduced version of the bill. The rest of the pork can be held up in house debate, where is should be.
