Surgery is Happening
Ok, Mama is in surgery as I type and the nurse reported that she is "under" and all is going well. My gosh, I am almost giddy! It has been a loooonnnnnggg two days. I did go home last night to sleep and I woke up one time. It was 12:57. I felt like ti was time to get up. I called the nurse that was assigned to Mama. His name is Jason and he is about the same age as my sons. He said,"Girl, you need to go to bed". I laughed and told him I would. He was so nice and took care to give me details of her condition. Everyone here has been so nice,Yesterday she was scheduled for a total knee replacement, They planned to do an epidural due to her youthful 86 years to keep from using general anesthesia. Now my mother is not very tall and shrinking. Due to this, her epidural space is compacted. So the epidural medication went "north" instead of "south". This happens and of course they stopped the procedure. My mother told them she was having difficulty breathing. They came out and told me and of course I said,ok. Soo... we had to wait for the medication to dissipate from her system. The most difficult part for me was waiting the two hours to see her. Then she had a breathing tube until the next morning. Thisi was not easy to watch. Mama wanted to ask me ?? about what was going on and so we started letting her write notes. They are hilarious now that it is behind us. The Dr. just came out and said the surgery is over and went very well. IT is only 8:00pm. You go Dr. Dunaway! God Bless hisi hands and my mother as she heals.Love,Gigi
