This is a better shot of the "picture window" that looks out on the Atlantic. This is such a pretty view, where I hope to spend a lot of time. A decorator friend dropped by and I asked her advice (the free kind of course), she suggested a taupe/brown/beige color for the wall around the window to make the ocean "pop". She suggested a vivid blue for the beams on the ceiling. Then she suggested a removal of paint between the beams. There are quite a few layers of white paint on pine paneling( the oldfashioned real kind) whick makes up the ceiling. This is a charming old beach cottage and the roof/ceiling were one and the same. The shingles were put directly on the pine with no insulation.
