Let's try this one more time with the send-me-your-answers-via-email format. If there's no interest this time, it will be back to shout the answers out in comments method. So, you have until Noon (CDT) on Tuesday, August 5th to email your answers to russ@springfieldtrivia.com. Ties will be broken by the order answers were received. I will also award one bonus point to the first set of answers I receive.

Without further ado....

9) What proper noun can be found in every drawing by this artist after 1945?

(Other than his signature, of course)

10) If I had a hankering for a tasty steak sandwich and a bottle of Yuengling, I could get it at this place for $9.29 plus tax....but from Springfield, I would have to leave around midnight to make there in time for lunch. What town should I set the GPS for?

8) Russ, that IS the Towanda spirit. :)

I'm guessing Scott has already found a secret code implanted in your questions that reveal what your next set of questions will be - which he has also already answered.

23) Have at it Scott. That was the last of the ones I wrote in '05, so now I have to come up with all new questions. I'd rather play than write any day.

Ames - you did get the bonus point for getting yours in first. I'll post the answers later tonight.

25) 1) If you find yourself on the river with a couple of cowboys, why would two ladies not worry you?

In Texas Hold’em, the river is the last card dealt. ‘Cowboys’ and ‘ladies’ are poker slang for Kings and Queens. You wouldn’t be worried about the queens because a pair of kings beats a pair of queens.

2) Name the two Brooklyn brothers who ended up in different Midwest states - one in Illinois, the other in Nebraska, leading polar opposite lives.

Al Capone and his brother James, who changed his name to Richard Hart and became a lawman, prohibition agent and bodyguard to President Coolidge.

3) Who sent an important message 37 years ago which simply read, “QWERTYUIOP”?

Computer engineer Ray Tomlinson, who sent the first email in 1971.

4) Complete the following sequence:
a) SS (or PS)
b) CoS
c) PoA
d) GoF
e) OotP
f) HBP
g) ??

g = DH. These are the books in the Harry Potter series, beginning with Sorcerer's Stone (or Philosopher's Stone) through Half Blood Prince. Next in the series is Deathly Hollows.

5) What acronym do postal employees, bankers and computer memory manufacturers share?

There were two different ways to answer this question. One was an acronym that means the same thing in each field - FIFO (First In, First Out). The other was ZIP which has different meanings....
ZIP
Zone Improvement Plan
Zero Interest Payment
Zigzag Inline Package

6) What fictional character is loyal to Australia’s national airline?

Charlie Babbitt: Ray, all airlines have crashed at one time or another, that doesn’t mean that they are not safe.
Raymond Babbitt: Qantas. Qantas never crashed.
Charlie Babbitt: Qantas?
Raymond Babbitt: Never crashed.
Charlie Babbitt: Oh, that’s gonna do me a lot of good because Qantas doesn’t fly to Los Angeles out of Cincinnatti, you have to get to Melbourne, Melbourne Australia, in order to get the plane that flies to Los Angeles!
Raymond Babbitt: Yeah, Melbourne is the capital.

7) What word links the things in these photos?

BLUE
These pictures are all linked by songs with the word ‘blue’ in the title.
Blue Moon
Blue Danube
Jackie Blue
Blue Bayou

8) Masonori came first and was followed 30 years later by a tornado. What was his profession?

Masanori Murakami was the first Japanese player in major league baseball. He played for the San Francisco Giants in 1964 and 1965. The next Japanese major leaguer didn’t debut until Hideo (The Tornado) Nomo signed with the Dodgers in 1995.

9) What word can be found in every drawing by this artist after 1945?

Al Hirschfeld hid the name of his daughter Nina in every drawing he produced after her birth in 1945.

10) If I had a hankering for a tasty steak sandwich and a bottle of Yuengling, I could get it at this place for $9.29 plus tax....but from Springfield, I would have to leave around midnight to make there in time for lunch. What town should I set the GPS for?

How dare you Southerners not answer this question. That's the Coal Yard in York, SC.

26) RTS.... Return to sender for postal worker...... Russian Trading System banker... and Run Time System for Computer guys... Okay so it wasn't the right answer but it also worked. :) (sort of)

Also quite coincidentally.... mapquest lists Boalsburg PA as being 12 hours from Springfield and though I didn't find the price you could get a steak sandwich and bottle of Yuengling there as well.
I think I need half points or something. lol
KTkat   Tuesday, August 5, 2008
Russ
27) KTkat - I would have given you that except that Run Time System deals with code, not memory. :)

If you can find an overhead view of a building in Boalsburg that looks like the Coal Yard, I'll give you half a point!

28) http://www.kellys-steak.com/content/specials.php
It's not the over head shot but could have been the same building :D
KTkat   Tuesday, August 5, 2008
Russ
29) Hmmm...if only I could find the giant steer on top of the Coal Yard. :)

I just tried to call Kelly's to see how much their steak sandwich is, but nobody answered. I'll give you a 1/2 point for effort anyway.

30) Thanks Russ!! I'll work harder for the RIGHT answers next time... LOL
