Wanted: New Music Suggestions

Ask anyone who has ever taken a road trip with me, and they'll tell you that my musical tastes amount to playing MY FAVORITE SONG RIGHT NOW! on repeat until that song becomes more unpleasant to hear than a pack of feral cats in heat.

So I'm looking for new music to hate someday. I desperately need a fresh infusion of tunes for my running playlist. It doesn't have to be recent, or especially good, just something to help keep me motivated when I want to lay down in the road and take a nap somewhere around mile 8.

For workouts I tend to prefer what the kids these days call "rap" or "hip-hop" and the talentless abyss of pop music. Although Andrew and my brother Dave have gotten me to like some of that whiny emo stuff (Mystic seaport is that way). Basically I'll give anything a shot if it means being able to get Justin Timberlake circa 2002 out of rotation (I'm so ashamed).

I'd love some suggestions of song titles (Mom, please no Perry Como) to get me through my workouts. Thanks!

If I take a long road trip by myself (which I have done an 8 hour drive to Minnesota alone before) I love to have my favorite musicals all on one playlist.
All the songs I love to sing to during the movie are right there for me to belt out as I go down the road. I even have Phantom of the Opera! It is the only time I can sing along with that stuff and not be glared at for ruining the show!

Indeed - Anyone that can write a jingle that State Farm has been using pretty much as long as I can remember has serious musical chops. Also, Copacabana.

+1 for BM (heh)

Ask your southern cousins about various beach music songs. One song that you might enjoy is May I by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs.

Manilow wrote the State Farm jingle? I'm adding that to my playlist.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm off to Amazon to download some music...

A little late to respond here but my #1 motivating band to work out to is Blink 182. I've always been a big fan, and love punk, but Travis Barker is hands down the best drummer of our generation. His beats help me climb hills and keep me from crying.

I'm always updating my playlist so it's never too late. I don't have any Blink 182 now and I don't know why, it's a good suggestion. My #1 favorite workout song now is one Lionheart suggested above - Handlebars by Flobots. Check it out if you haven't already, it may help you finish that triathlon in 20 minutes flat.

Sally - check out Pizza Hut & Taco Bell by Das Racist ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ8ViYIeH04). It was stuck in my head for much of my run this past weekend. Thankfully, it knocked "It's So Cold in the D" by T-Baby ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aktLRiWXfqg) out of my mental jukebox.
