OK National Geographic spider, you win. The vegetable garden is all yours.

I think it's good you gave her the garden, since I think she IS a Garden Spider. Ack.

Dad just said they're nowhere near as bad as they look. Nothing to be afraid of. Yeah, right.

Garden spiders (genus called argiope) are harmless to humans. They look threatening but pose no danger to humans as they crawl across the back of your neck or arm! Just don't hurt them when you scream loudly and react by trying to hit it or brush it off you. This time of the year they are quite plentiful.

Try telling your son they're harmless. He still wouldn't get within 10 ft of that garden.

I am looking into buying land in Antarctica as of this posting. They don't have gardens there, do they?

I don't like spiders but I actually love these beautiful garden spiders. In my garden they don't scurry away like most spiders, they just sit there on their beautiful webs. I believe they're also called weaver spiders(?) because of the zigzag patter they weave in the middle of their web. It also helps me see them and not be surprised by them -- one of my main problems with spiders and their webs!

As much as I hate spiders, I gotta give this dude some props. He's out there working it. And his coloring is a big "screw you" to world. Dude isn't worried about blending into anything.

I'm so scared from this picture, I think I might vomit. At best, I'll have nightmares about it and swat at anything that moves in my bed - Alison, the cat, etc. But hopefully the cat.
