The farmer next door ruined our ENTIRE garden with Round-Up when they decided to spray in the strong winds yesterday. Brilliant idea. Not happy here.

1) Uhhh...I'd be paying him a visit.AngiWednesday, July 1, 2009
2) Me too. Obviously not an organic gardner. Can you report him to the EPA?dannieWednesday, July 1, 2009
3) I think I'd check with someone locally to see if he has to pay for the damage. I guess it is too late to rebuild the garden for the season but that was pretty stupid on his part.LGrantWednesday, July 1, 2009
4) That is awful! I'm sorry you have such an rutabaga living next to you. Please give him a piece of your mind. Gardening is hard work!mattpikeWednesday, July 1, 2009
5) last comment was from me... :)SpikeWednesday, July 1, 2009
6) I would be finding someone to call...that is total nonsense!Richie & AshleyWednesday, July 1, 2009
7) Oh no! I'd be livid!!girlcarewWednesday, July 1, 2009
8) I'm still mad on your behalf this morning.SpikeThursday, July 2, 2009
9) I'm still mad too!! Greg went out to check it again this morning. He said so far it's still looking ok. The first day the bases of all the leaves were completely yellow. They still are, but it hasn't spread. My dad said it'll take a while but eventually everything will probably die. I'm so disappointed. This was our first REAL garden that wasn't grown in pots, and we've worked really hard on it.
We can't decide what to do. Our options are 1) Round-up the farmer's garden next door 2) Eat all the Farmer's produce before they get a chance 3) Just call and tell them what they did and ask what they're going to do about it. Greg wants #1. I kind of like a combo of #2 and #3. Either way, it won't fix our garden.SnellyThursday, July 2, 2009
10) I think 2 and 3 have possibilities. I think I'd start with 3 and work up to 2 depending on their response. :)LGrantThursday, July 2, 2009
11) I'm so disappointed. We were so looking forward to all our produce this summer. So far all we've gotten is one cucumber I picked yesterday. We got our garden in late because of all the rain. So we're already behind. This was going to help us save so much money too!SnellyThursday, July 2, 2009
12) I would definately call them and tell them what happened. Chances are they will feel horrible about it and - hopefully - try to do something to fix it.justmegThursday, July 2, 2009
13) It's a small town, so we know the family. I can't imagine them not doing something. I just can't understand why they would choose to spray when it was so windy. And they've never sprayed the edge of the field like that. We've always just kept it mowed down. I wish they would have at least let us know. We could have tarped our stuff while they sprayed.SnellyThursday, July 2, 2009
14) You know...I would stick with #3 and forget #2. I don't think you want to eat his veggies if he is spraying round up. God knows what he put on his veggies.SpikeThursday, July 2, 2009
15) That is very true. I told Greg we need to call today and let them know what happened. That way when the Round-Up takes 2 weeks to kill things, they don't think we're making it up. He says calling won't do any good because they won't do anything. I think they need to do something, and at least apologize.SnellyThursday, July 2, 2009
16) Tell him that it would be a shame if his crops got sprayed with roundup in say, oh late september or early october when you decide to spray on a windy day.RickMondayThursday, July 2, 2009
17) That's what we were just discussing during lunch, Rick.SnellyThursday, July 2, 2009
18) Hopefully your small-town relationship will prompt him to do what is right--not the big-city mentality of "like I care". :)LGrantThursday, July 2, 2009
19) I would certainly mention the money it cost to plant such a wonderful garden and the money it was intended to save. Certainly in this economy they can understand that this was simply a hobby of yours. This garden was born out of necessity...not bordom.Richie & AshleyThursday, July 2, 2009
20) So far everything is looking ok. We're told though, that Round-Up just causes things to start growing really fast and then kills it in a couple weeks. So, we'll see what happens. But if everything dies, we'll definitely be telling them about it.SnellyMonday, July 6, 2009
21) When Debbie, my yard lady, sprayed Round-up on the weeds, that is about what happened. I thought they were growing instead of leaving. She'd warned me it might take up to two weeks. Then, suddenly they all vanished. Hope your garden survives but I'd still let them know what happened to avoid it happening again.LGrantMonday, July 6, 2009
