New TattooAbout two weeks ago i decided to get yet another tattoo. So far ALL of my tattoo's have been my own design, which is something I am really proud of and something, should i decide to get more, i will hopefully stick to.
I just want to put it out there that i am a very conceptual person. All of my art is concept based, and that kind of thinking bleeds over into my "regular" life (whatever that means?)
SO the concept behind this tattoo was first and foremost a tribute to my mom and dad. I have grown a lot closer to them over the last two years and respect them more than anyone else in the world. I didn't want to get the typical "i love mom/dad" tat with big roses around it (although those were the inspiration to finding a new way to tribute them)
Secondly my tattoo works on a more ironic level. What i came up with was the sign for mom and dad in sign language like you would see in a "how to" type book. This riffs on people who get different languages, i.e. chinese symbols, on them. (and no neither of my parent are deaf). I love how beautiful and simple the signs are. What i really love is how odd the symbols are if you don't know sign language.
I would love to hear your thoughts (good or bad) about my tattoo or tattoos in general :o)
