Tuesday, March 18th, 2008Antsy to Bike
So....another day off......and another day of crappy weather. I am dieing to jump on my bike and peddal around Springfield. It seems every Monday and Tuesday tend to be HORRIBLE biking days. Last week was nice but I was in St. Louis.
Guess I'll have to wait for next week or try and sneak in a really short ride after work one day. Maybe I'll clean the old bike off today and grease her all up. That way she is ready to go. The last time I rode it was in Connecticut....and it had all sorts of problems from riding it to San Francisco. Made lots of squeeky noises that I could not tell where it was coming from.
Soooo pumped for a Monday or Tuesday that is sunny. I'll have to start putting in requests with Joe Crain and Gus.
For now I'll put up one of my favorite pictures of biking to keep my spirits high....here is the finish line after an entire summer of biking:
Sports Note: Screw the NIT.......The Big Dance starts tonight with the "opening round game". Im going to watch because Mount St. Mary's from the Northeast Conference is playing....
Still have to fill a few more brackets out.....this is about to be my favorite sports time of the year. Can't wait to see how I do in the Humzoo Challenge.
Monday, I am planning on having a date with the bike too!!!
Ben, you've probably already scoped out the bike trails, but there are two paved trails in Springfield.
The Interurban trail, starts near Best Buy and ends in Chatham, has been split into two sections because of construction. Something about building a new overpass on 55. It's about a 18 mile round trip (if there wasn't construction going on). Great for road biking as there are only other bikers and meandering walkers on the trail.
The other trail in Springfield is the Lost Bridge trail. Starts by IDOT off of Dirksen, ends in Rochester. A shorter trail, but 10 miles round trip. Eventually it's suppose to be extended to Taylorville. Great in the summer because there is a snow cone stand open in Rochester off of the trail.
Also....good news for bikers out of Lincoln. This is from the courrier on Thursday I believe:
""The group decided the most viable option is a trail following the old interurban path from Madigan State Park south to the Logan County line.
"It's a good length," observed Dale Bassi, who conducted the meeting. "It has pretty much everything you want in a bike trail."
One factor making this option particularly attractive is the fact that another group is working to develop a trail from Williamsville to Sherman, which could eventually link to the Logan County trail. ""
There should be news about this bike trail tonight since they are having a panel meeting
