Illinois Is Number One!

Sorry Illini fans if you clicked this expecting the UNIVERSITY of Illinois to be number one....maybe next year. Actually your state is number one at public care for Age three preschoolers.
This according to a national study released by the National Institute of Early Education Research which can be read here: http://nieer.org/yearbook/

I got to cover the story after no one built an arc in Southern Illinois after some pretty harsh rain storms. And I was truly impressed by Springfield's Early Education Center. With Presidential candidates grumbling over ideas of expanding education for all nationwide...it is cool it is already happening in Springfield...and has been for since 1985! And what a nice facility.

Yell at the Gov all you want but he def got this one right. But beware.....states tend cut funding from here first when they need to save a little moolah.....and Illinois needs some serious cash for next years budget.
Anywho....kudos to Illinois for being number 1.

Sports Note: Pumped for the tourney tomorrow!

1) I spent 32 years as a teacher in Springfield School District 186. Many times over the years budget cuts wiped out programs or diluted a program so severely that it became ineffective. It seems that the good things in education are always the first to feel the crunch of budget cuts.

3) I just saw this piece during the 11:00 news today. Go Ben! I'm very happy to see that we're doing so well educating our 3 year olds. I'm especially delighted that my (soon to be) 3 year old has been placed on the waiting list for 186's Early Learning Center next year. I think they have a great program. I just wish every 3 year old could have that same opportunity.
