Schools Look Like Prisons
I remember people in high school used to joke that our high school looked like a prison. I think it is something all teenagers say. However.....I had crazy flash backs of this convo today.
I was able to cover a story at the Decatur Correctional Facility...an all women's prison. It looked EXACTLY LIKE MY HIGH SCHOOL.
The halls looked identical. I walked passed the library that from the outside of my door looked like my old library. The gym (where the event I was going to) looked just like my gym. I was expecting on old teacher to come flying around the corner and ask me for my homework.
Here's my old high school...Wamogo warrior for life:

1) As I recall the WAMOGO "warden" was a pretty tough cookie. The ads to the right of your blog are hilarious...who knew you could search for someone in prison or become a prisoner's pen pal?
2) I'm lucky. Since I went to HS here in Cali, all of our doors opened directly to the outside (with covered porch-like "hallways"). Very not-prison-ish on the outside. But my JHS (in N. Dak) was a box. Very prison-like. I hear it's an old folks home now.
3) My high school here in Omaha was designed by a prison architecht back in the 80's...seriously, I had a friend from out of town come visit once, and we drove by the school and he asked me why we lived close to a low security prison.
