Fires, Crashes, and Cow Feces...oh my
Today had to be the craziest day at work.....so far. And that is saying alot for a guy who works in the freaking news business.

The day started with this awesome story set up on a cattle farm. Corn prices have hit all time highs...and it is putting strains on the cow biz...actually changing the way things get done.

While in Connecticut I lived pretty darn close to a dairy farm.... but I've never been on a feed lot till today.

I threw on my winter boots....and waded through 3inch deep cow crap. Had a nice texture...I hear it can reduce wrinkles. The cows on the farm were hysterical. They were extremely tame...and if you had your back to them they would sneak up and attempt to lick you. They loved to lick everything.....wires....camera.....cameraman.
Every five seconds you would have to run at them to try and make them back off but as soon as you turned your back they would sneak in......and with 200 cows around...they were everywhere. Reminded me alot of real life Super Mario with the ghosts. The story turned out great....although i felt bad using a hamburger as a prop. Find out how...what these guys are eating (picture of the cows) could effect the price the next time you pull in to the drive through (show me holding a hamburger from McDonalds). Your news starts now.

Then the craziness began.....a call.....serious car accident in nearby Mt. Auburn.
Camera man mike and I jumped in the van and drove off to the scene just after a child was airlifted out. Bad crash...10 year old flown out....infant in back seat..two women in front ran stop sign and a pick up truck with two men in it slammed into them. Once I got the footage and sound....my day was supposed to be done.

On the way home through Mechanicsburg (small town....of course) a volunteer fire truck pulled in front of Mike and I with its lights on. It was heading towards Springfield....so we followed it. It turned off some side road in Rochester....and pulled right up to this barn/apartment completely engulfed in flames! I jumped out with camera in hand and began rolling. It was the biggest fire I've ever been to. Flames were shooting up 3 or four stories. The footage I captured was some of the best video I have ever taken. My appearance on the 10pm newscast wasn't so pretty. From all of the running back and forth from the road where our live truck was....back to the scene had me a sweaty mess. I also asked the producer to have me say one line and then cut to video.....which didn't happen and had me looking like an idiot down at a script. But it didn't matter cause the video was so good. Great flame shots.

I got out of work 13 hours after I arrived after covering a huge structure fire, a serious car wreck, and an economic impact story about cows. Thank god it is my friday. Now it is time to go wash my cow crap smelling boots off!
