I'm Radio at Heart
I met my new roomate Steve almost as soon as I started working for Channel 20 here in Springfield. We would run into each other on the weekends. I am a one man band (shoot my own stuff, edit it, write it, then stand in front of the camera). Steve happened to be at the time a one man band for WAND the NBC afiliate out of Decatur...he was one of their Springfield bureau reporters.

Well.....Steve has since moved out of the sometimes ugly world of one man banding and has found a new home in radio down in Taylorville. My roomie asked me a couple of weeks ago if I would be interested in some color commentary for high school baseball.

I....at one time aspired to be Bob Costas.......so I of course agreed and today on my day off was able to sit beside Steve along the first base side of Shelbyville High School Rams baseball. It amazes me that Springfield, Illinois somehow lost out in voting to hold the Simpsons Movie premier to the Springfield in Vermont. This Springfield has a man who runs the electric company that looks exactly like Mr. Burns...here is a picture (a bad one but work with me here)....he is the man all the way on the left:

Springfield has many houses that look just like the ones the Simpson live in.....and more importantly is pretty freaking close to a Shelbyville.

Calling today's game was a blast on 98.3..the easy choice. Steve and I had alot of comical bantar.....which was highlighted by a 10 minute conversation on how there are no tailors in Taylorville. There were also two grand slams hit.......which I kept referring to as grand salamis and the game ended in a shrrrrrlacking. Shelbyville 15 Beech City 1.

On the drive down I took some photos....cause I don't think people on the East Coast fully understand the view that Midwesterners see everyday. Flat.

And I continue to be in awe at the most beautiful sunsets here......something I first noted on my bike trip across the US of A.

6) Maybe if you would quit looking at the sunsets you would not fall off of your bike so often.

Instead of Bob Costas I was thinking more on the line of Bob Ueker. He has made a ton of money outside of Baseball.

How is your golf game?

7) Did you do the commentary for free or did you get paid on your day off?
