Holy Flash Flood
If you are driving around Springfield....beware....lots of traffic lights are out.
We just got hit with a pretty fast moving and pretty nasty lightning storm. According to work.....power is out in patches around the city as lightning blew up a transformer on 2nd street. More at 10:00 I'm sure (shameless plug).
I happened to be on the road going from East Springfield to West...and it was a pretty crazy drive. The skies went black and lightning was popping all over the place! One strike hit what must have been a few feet from my car. Made me jump a little. I'm curious to hear from Gus to see how much rain we got. The streets are all flooded here.
JOURNALISM NOTE:
I drove over an hour outside of Havana today....which I believe is not even in our viewing area. But the University of Springfield built a field station in one of the biggest Wetland Restoration Projects in the entire country. It is called the Emiquon Preserve. Over 7,100 acres have been purhased and are being naturally reflooded along the Illinois River. The view....was one of the most beautiful area I've seen in Central Illinois. Wish I had my camera. A new 2,000 acre lake has formed....and the station sits up on a hill with amazing view scenery. I kinda want to go back....and I may be given the opportunity..... a guy from the Nature Conservancy offered me a ride in his Air Boat. Sweet Deal!

1) Great reporting Ben. You're turning Humzoo into a breaking news source, I love it!
2) I recently saw a report on lightening striking cars. You are perfectly safe unless you are touching anything metal...then you could be toast. The air boat sounds like fun. Do you remember the ride through the Everglades and the huge gators?
3) Oh I remember. How can one forget that experience?
