Biking in the Wind
For other bikers out there they know...there is nothing like biking into the wind. Last summer I biked from New Haven, CT to San Fran.....most of the time....against the wind. And today, while on a short ride around Springfield...I had the feeling I had when I was biking through Utah and Nevada.... hellish headwind that made biking very difficult.

I would rather bike the rockies than bike through a day full of head wind. Best part of not having to bike across country anymore......you can head east. Today I headed down Koke Mill onto Illes......headedstraight out west until I could go no further....turned around....and BAMN...smooth sailing all the way home. Barely even had to pedal it was awesome. It is the closest thing I have had to biking up hills in Illinois....if you bike hard for half the ride you get rewarded with a speedy decent. Well in this case it wasn't a decent.....but a tail wind.

Man I love biking.

2) Man, I'm right there with you dude. That wind has been fierce lately. Unfortunately for me, it has been from the south for a few days, which is a crosswind for the majority of my ride. You'd think a crosswind wouldn't affect you that much, but Thursday there were gusts of almost 40mph winds, and I could barely manage 12 mph (where I usually pace about 18 or 19). Then for a brief moment I turned north, and it was glorious.

I would rather bike hills than wind any day, mostly because you can prepare for hills. You know where they are and can plan days in advance. I would love to do the Springfield Century this year, but it all depends on wind. There's no way I'm riding 100 miles in strong winds. Last century I did was bad enough with 15mph winds, 'cause you're in the middle of nowhere getting the full force of the wind. Yikes.

5) Two things....I also hate biking in the wind. And Shoo and I are talking about doing the Century this year...which means we need to get our lazy butts on our bikes.
