My First Personal Appearance...and gnats.

On St. Patrick's Day...I wandered around a nearby watering hole. I ran into an older gentleman in a Kilt. It being St. Patrick's Day, I of course talked to him.

This week...I got an email from his daughter asking me to be a guest judge for a "Bonniest Knee" competition (some sort of contest where I would pick out the best looking knees) at a Celtic Street Festival they had downtown today. Unfortunately the timing didn't work out...so they asked me if I would like to be the guest judge of a William Wallace/Queen Mary costume contest. I of course agreed...and after my live shot, I convinced a couple co workers to go down with me.

We easily picked out the best Queen Mary....but the William Wallace was tough. So I came up with the idea that the two best dressed finalists would have to belt out their best Mel Gibson "FREEDOM"....the final line of Brave Heart and we would let the crowd decide.

Contestant number one walks up......FREEEEEEEE.....BEER!!!!!
The crowd cheers.

Contestant number 2......FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOMMMMMMMM
Crowd roars
It was a fun 15 minutes of fame. A very memorable first "appearance".

As for the gnats......I was swarmed during my live shot which threw me way off. It is tough to talk with bugs in your ears. I'm carrying bug spray with me everywhere from now on.

2) Go to a sporting goods store and pick up the jungle juice named after you called "Bens". I swear by it. Of course it is 98% Deet so don't ingest it. Who won the contest? The free beer guy?

3) Sounds like MN--buggy place in warm weather. Someone once told us to use Skin So Soft (I think that is the name) by Avon for a mild but effective insect repellent. I don't know if the insects didn't like it but the smell made me gag. I can't handle strong perfumey smells like that. I think I would prefer the bugs.

4) I hope the loser didn't have to suffer the fate of the *real* William Wallace. Yikes!

5) LGrant, I have problems with bug spray also. The smells just overwhelm me. Ben, wait until the Japanese beetles attack. Those things are nasty!!
