The Road to Omaha

I write to you from Omaha Nebraska...the land of Warren Buffet, quality steak, and the College World Series. It is also where my bro Scott, his fiance Jess, and their pets Byron and Angyong (sp?) call home.

This journey started 48 hours ago....in a field in Mechanicsburg outside of Springfield, Il. Mike our photographer is a promoter for a yearly event that raises money for charity...POND PARTY 2008. Basically it is a grown up high school party....that involves drinking in a field. The event is well named. It takes place far from the big city lights of Springfield sorrounded by corn fields and is next to a pretty good sized pond.

Upon our arrival...we instantly got stuck in the mud in the "parking area"...pushed the car to a parking spot...and headed up a dark path to the make shift stage. The night was full of some awesome country music and I got to meet alot of Mike's
buddies. The night ended just how it started...pushing and pulling cars out of the mud.

As the night came to a close we headed back to Mike's house. Mike lives on a farm ...and at some ungodly hour I demanded to meet his donkey and goats. They were very friendly and very happy to see me since Jodi, mike's wife let me feed
them. It was a free petting zoo!!!

The next day I woke up on very little sleep...worked...and decided to drive to Omaha to see my bro. The drive had to be one of the worst experiences in my driving career since I had trouble staying awake for the 7 hours. I actually pulled off in a rest stop for a two hour nap.....it would have been an 8 hour nap if Scott had not called me. I arrived promptly at 4:30am.

Today Scott and I saw "A Hard Days Night"....the first Beattle movie at an "artsy" theatre down town. We then walked around old market...a pretty neat shopping experience. Walked to the Missouri River, which Scott...who has lived in Omaha for a year and half kept calling the Platte.

At night I was treated to some evening fire works from some more severe weather...and a Chimichanga. Scott and I have a goal of finding the best Chimichanga in America. Today's dinner at Roja was pretty darn close to the best....but still not better than Wood's Pit in Bantam, Connecticut. How I miss you wood's pit.

Well...I guess I'm off to watch scott play guitar hero and play with this behemoth dog Byron who just about knocked me over when I arrived yesterday.

1) Okay, so I have to say I'm glad I'm not the only chimichanga lover out there. I always get them when they're on any menu. Springfield leaves a little to be desired in the chimichanga department (Xoci's chimi is better than Los Agaves), but I'll check around the Raleigh area and let you know :-D

3) Imagine my surprise when I called Scott and Jess said you were in Omaha. Glad you arrived safely. The most dangerous part of the journey was probably sleeping at the truck stop.
