Before becoming a reporter in Springfield...I trekked across the country on a bike for a good cause. The trip is something I'll never forget....not just because of the accomplishment...but unfortunately because of a tragedy.

A year ago today one of our riders was struck by a car outside of Lucas, Kansas. Not riding with Dan that day...I'm still not exactly sure what happened. He was rushed by life star to a hospital in Kansas....then eventually flown back home to Denver. Dan has received the best possible care in the year since the accident and just a few weeks ago...he returned home for the first time after his family made special adjustments to their house to allow for the extra daily care Dan needs.

Dan suffered several injuries...the most serious being brain damage...but has made amazing recoveries and jumped over hurdles in the last year.

I think about Dan's accident alot...especially when jumping on a bike. After the accident a few of our riders decided not to continue on to San Francisco. I did...and am happy I finished the journey with support from Dan's family.

So a year after a horrible day in Kansas....I'm thinking of Dan....and hope to see another year of amazing progress in his recovery.

If anyone would like a cool CD that will help benefit the future cost of Dan's care...

3) It is amazing that he survived at all. My nephew also survived a traumatic head injury last year and miraculously, is doing very well. We are so blessed, and I'm sure Dan's family feels the same way!
