Europe...here I come.
On Saturday I will be boarding a plane in Chicago...flying to New York...getting on a plane with my good friend Pat...and heading to Europe.

We fly to Geneva and the only sure plan we have is we must make it back to the airport 6 days later.

We have booked zero hotel rooms.
We have made zero transportation arrangements.
Neither of us speak the local lingo.
I smell adventure......

2) Sounds awesome! Good luck on your adventure. My only advice is to make sure that you have enough layover in NY. When Denny and I went to Europe a couple of years ago, our plane was delayed to NY because of bad weather in NY. I thought well if the airport is all backed up, they will not leave us. As we landed on the runway and approached our terminal, we watched our flight to Madrid take off in front of our eyes. We could not get another flight out until the next night, and that was after we had to fly from Newark to Atlanta, GA and spend the day in the GA airport. Fun times!

3) Have a great time and beware of pickpockets in crowded places. Switzerland is a beautiful country (funnily enough, my mum is there right now I think....probably in Geneva or Basel). With 6 days, I wouldn't go too far from Geneva as there should be plenty to see nearby and you want to be sure you can get back in time.

8) Get one of those camera straps I saw at REI that prevents cutting the strap and taking off with your valuable equipment...not that I'm thinking of us here missing all the photos and/or videos. :)

Have a great adventure! Sounds exciting!!

9) Ben, I did the same thing when I was young except I spent the summer working as a waitress in Paris and then my roommate and I traveled around Europe at the end of the summer. We ended up in Geneva one day which didn't have any vacant hotel rooms so we spent the night in a park (this was after getting thrown out of the bus station because we didn't have a ticket). I can recommend a good park bench in Geneva! We also hitchhiked through France and ended up in a Monte Carlo casino. You're in for the adventure of a lifetime!!!! Can't wait to hear about it!! Bon voyage!!!!

10) ENVY over here. I will be flying into Chicago Saturday but not on to Geneva. If I did go to Geneva, the way you're doing it is the way i would want to do it. Sounds like you're getting ready to have an incredible trip!

11) I smell a live European blog Ben. Are you going to have a connection over there or some way to upload photos along the way? If so, please keep us informed and post tons of photos! I like traveling vicariously through people.

12) Amber, some of his Couch Surfers and Free Loader connections may be a little (or a lot) sketchy so given the crowds at the Tour de France he may very well be sleeping on park benches. I can't wait to see the photos. Got that Ben! Internet cafes daily!!! :)

13) I feel the same, Denny. If I can't do it, I enjoy going along on the trip with others. Humzoo really makes it great to share those trips. Nancy, that sounds like it was an awesome adventure! No wonder you are such a cool person! :)

14) I spent some time in Geneva a few years ago. Old Geneva is beautiful. We also spent time in Bern and Zurich. Beware of crossing the street because pedestrains don't get much respect. You don't want to get hit by a Volkswagon! And eat fresh chocolate croissants for breakfast. Mmmmm....

I'm so jealous. I did Switzerland with the in-laws. Your way sounds much more fun.
