Fair Finale

So the state fair has come and gone. It is something that was talked about from the very first day I arrived in November. Amazingly I really only did two stories while the fair was actually going on...both this weekend. It was fun going around in a golf cart to find random stories. I didn't get to see any of the shows (sorry fergy) but I did hang out with some cows.

My favorite of the two fair stories is no longer online. But here's the other:

LAST DAY AT FAIR

1) You guys really have an early one. MN starts this coming weekend (I think and runs until Labor Day Weekend). Oregon runs the same 2 weeks. I always thought it was weird to end on that weekend since so many people travel (guess not this year!) and usually by that weekend everything is done and the animals are all gone and some of the exhibits have wrapped too. I always thought the butter sculptures were cool. This one is nice!

2) Hmm - butter sculptures - we don't have those down here - they would melt I guess. Our fair is not until the second week in October

3) They keep them in a cold room, Meg. They sculp them in a big cooler and leave them there for display. I don't know many areas that would allow one to remain in less than refrigerated conditions. I think the MW loves them so much because the MW area is renowned for dairy and what better way to show dairy than carved butter? :)

9) That is funny. I wonder where they melt it after the fair. Maybe at the lobsterfest?

10) HAHA...good one, Leslie. Seems to me that MN donates theirs or something but it's been a few years. Right now I'm just happy that my house isn't melting butter without a heat source. Nothing is sweeter than Oregon rain after a long dry spell and overabundance of heat. My staycation isn't relaxing (yet) but I'm getting a lot done now that my house isn't 80+. Woo-hoo!

11) I've been dreaming of a staycation. It is something I have never done but have always wanted to. I think it is in the cars for me this fall. Linda, Are you still rising at the crack of dawn? I'd use every morning of a staycation to sleep in...no annoying alarm clock going off...ahhhh...now that would be heaven!
