The King of Cool
Before moving more than 1,000 miles away from Connecticut...I had a great job. It wasn't glamorous. I worked in a deli. A deli in the tiny town of Warren, CT. Best known for beautiful Lake Waramaug.

On paper it prolly didn't seem like a great job. Wake up at some ungodly hour to be at work well before the sun comes up. But it was a sweet job while in college during summer and winter breaks. The Warren General Store and Cafe was frequenced by an array of townie characters....highway workers....builders...electricians....teachers....and a friendly group of old men who would sit in our little store every morning complaining and conversing.

But the best part of my job was an awesome staff...lead by a fun, young boss lady named Linda....back to Linda and the store in a second....but fast forward to this morning.
I walked into work today and was handed this by my co worker Katie. She goes...I got this and thought of you....

A 2008 Springfield Mile Meida Guide. The Springfield Mile is a bike race that they have every year held at the fairgrounds. Apparently it is a big deal for the biker types...and they travel to Springfield in the thousands to see it. I was confused...I don't ride motorcycles....nor do I follow any kind of racing.
Katie doesn' hesitate and opens the guide....

I didn't see the connection to me at first....but at closer glance......

HOLY CRAP!!! MORRIS, CT....That's my hometown!!! As I stared at the name of the rider Ken Coolbeth.....it struck me...THAT was a customer at the Warren General Store and Cafe. Linda had a signed Ken Coolbeth poster. I kinda shrugged it off when she claimed our customer was some sort of big shot racer. I was kind of unimpressed while a Deli worker.
And here he is....a star in Springfield.

He's actually one of the best in the sport.

He ended up winning the Sunday Race...and coming up just short in the Labor day race.
He's number 1.

So I would like to apologize to the King of Cool...Ken Coolbeth. I would have threw in some extra cheese if I knew you were such a big deal.

1) Great blog. No matter the size of the town--someone big can come from there and make a name for him/herself. :) I love the top photo of the lake in the fall. Nothing more beautiful than fall colors and a dark blue lake in the midst. :)
2) That's a neat story.
3) Good grief...I've never heard of him. The best part is his cool name. What a very humerous blog this is. Great job!
4) I've still never heard of him!
