Being Recognized

The one question friends from home always ask...Do you get recognized all the time?

Simple answer...no...not really. My face shows up on TV for on average 30 seconds a night...Weds through Sunday...usually before and after a story.

I think since in Springfield...I've been "noticed" about four times. My bank teller knows me. A guy who bags groceries said "Hi Ben"...once...and maybe a couple "Haven't I seen you on TV?"

Amazingly...my Humzoo recognitions almost match that. During the Obama rally I ran into one of my favorite bloggers Bill. Although it was a short lived meeting.

And then this Sunday while covering the Springfield Century (which I should have been biking in but sickness and laziness won)....

As my camera was pointed down a small hill I hear "biker ben?"
Sally Pants and Dave Heinzel were flying by on their two wheelers and Sally Pants noticed me! I guess it's not very hard...the giant TV camera and news car may have given my identity away. Sweet deal! Weird thing is....I don't think I've seen Dave since interviewing him at his house the very first time I met him...but after being on this thing called humzoo....I felt like it was like a week.

Just like Bill it was another short meeting...I'll have to go to one of these Humzoo Rad Parties sometime and make these meeting a little longer.

Nice meeting you Sally...and seeing you again Dave. I would have filmed you guys biking but at the time I thought I was going to connect the century to a teenage boys death and didn't think you'd like to be linked. Instead the story turned into a much happier "biking is alive in Springfield" story.

1) Sounds like it's time for an Illinois Humzoo Users gathering. Bloomington/Normal might be a good almost-middle ground to meet.

3) What? No mention of the Shoo's of how we creepily follow your TV 20 vehicle, or watch you being harassed by lake side partiers, and then write about it on Humzoo?

Great story. I wondered if the Century was going to get covered this year.

4) Nice meeting you too Biker Ben! Sorry it had to be under those circumstances, when I was surrounded by a cloud of my own BO and hating the world.

To be fair, anytime I see a news anchor, I shout - Hey it's Biker Ben! This was the first time that I got it right.

5) What type of ball club do they have in Springfield,IL? In this area we have the Durham Bulls and the Carolina Mudcats. The Bulls are a Rays AAA level team, while the Mudcats are a Marlins AA team. Donzelle Willis pitched for the Mudcats about two months before he was called up.
