Monday, November 16th, 2009Humzoo! I finally did it! I GOT A DOOOOOGGGGGGG!!!!!
Friday night, Joe took me to the Humane Society to look at this puppy we found on their website. We spent some time with her, and some other pups, and I was like, "EH."
I never had that MOMENT that I was expecting.
It came time for the place to close, and we went over to the dog pens to take a look at the grown-up dogs, and we found THE ONE.
We both crawled into his kennel with him, and I was sortof squatted down on one knee, and he got all his paws balanced on one of my knees, and put his little head on my shoulder like, "Please don't leave meee.." Oh my god it was heartbreaking.
Then one of the workers came and kicked us out, because apparently it's not ok to crawl into an animal's kennel with him... (WTF).
So we had to leave, and couldn't take him home. I pretty much lost it. I was bawling my eyes out because we had to leave him. I think the girls behind the adoption counter thought I was manic or something.
So, I could barely stand it all weekend. Saturday we put up the fence, and then went to dinner at a friend's house... and I couldn't stop thinking about this freakin dog!
So first thing Sunday morning (first thing being about 1p.m., since we were exhausted from all the fence work), we went back to the Humane Society and ADOPTED OUR NEW BABY BOY!
Meet Fargo!!!
A beautiful, mild tempered, polite, and smart two-year-old shepherd mix.
He was sooooo tuckered out after being adopted, riding in the car, getting a bath at Feeder's Supply, getting BACK in the car, then going home to a new house with a new family... He was KONKED. :)
I love him so much. I can't wait to share stories of our new puppy love.
I'm with Angi--GSDs and GSD mixes are the best. My first GSD picked me when she was 4 mos. old. I was planning on buying a red male Doberman and instead I ended up with a 4 mo. old female GSD puppy who (I admit now) was pretty ugly as a puppy. I only saw her beauty and missed the ugly part but my mom confessed later that she thought she was an ugly puppy. She improved with age and was the love of my life.
Sounds like you have a great yard for him now and he will quickly acclimate to your home. The great thing about rescues is their thrill at getting a person of their own and usually they are totally yours--no hesitation.
Can't wait to hear more Fargo stories and see more photos of you guys having fun.
We originally had girl names picked out, and we were gonna go with Panda... but when we found Fargo, we had to have him. His kennel name was Gavin. He's totally already forgotten that dumb name.
