My Brother the College Graduate
This Sunday, I found out through the grapevine that my brother went and graduated college without telling anyone. He's been at SIUC for the past few years, and I had just assumed he would be there forever.
But Dave is not to be underestimated. That boy done got himself a COLLEGE DEGREE, and I couldn't be more proud.
Apparently, Dave just didn't want to make a big deal out of it... so I decided to make a big deal out of it.
Here is an Ode to David that I will share with The Humzoo Community in honor of this momentous occasion...
It seems like just Yesterday that Dave & I and the rest of the Eastside Queens were terrorizing Lake Lawn in Springfield (it's the wannabe Laketown, across West Lake Drive, but we made it epic).

But now... The Eastside Queens have all gone their separate ways, and my poor old mom is the only remaining member of our group still living on Queensway.
We had lots of fun through the years including countless hours of video games in Dave's room with random neighborhood & SSHS kids.

As you can see, Dave has always been studious. You can clearly see his dedication to concentration and his deep focus on his work in this impeccable workspace.

David is also committed to a nutritious "brain food" diet that contributes to his academic success.

Of course, we have had our share of good times through the years.
With Friends

and Family

But we always returned to our studies, knowing that one day all our hard work would pay off. Well this is your day, Young David!
Because in a few weeks, when all your library fines are paid, and your cap and gown are returned, you will receive a crisp new piece of paper rather unceremoniously via USPS that will become your ticket to a bright future!
In closing, I would once again like to offer my enthusiastic congratulations to David Gladish. One of SIUC's most recent grads. Your family is so proud of you, even if you don't want us to be :)

Good luck in the future, Dave. I am always here if you need me.
Never forget that Saluki Pride!

Nice blog and pictures! Congrats Dave you have made your sister very proud.
Congratulations to Dave!! Nice blog, Betsy.
Yes, I really did graduate. It only took 8 years. But I can understand Japanese now, and I have two bachelor's degrees: a bachelor's of fine art (BFA) with a specialization in painting (probably useless) and a BA in art history. I also have an AFA (Associate's in fine art) from my first 4 years, probably also useless. I applied for a job at SIUC as a retail services supervisor, it pays $30,000 per year. Hopefully they will call back. In the meantime I will be traveling back to Japan from June 22 through July 11 for my graduation trip/vacation. Then after Sada graduates in the Fall, we will both be headed down to Oaxaca, Mexico for 6 months to assist in an archaeological dig. I will be doing illustrations of the pottery they dig up, hopefully to be published in a journal article.
Amber- Of course it's Gladish!
Emmy Ann- I studied too many things. I started out as an Industrial Design major.

Erin S.- Thanks Erin, I've really worked hard, I promise.

Molly T- I miss you guys so much! Tell George I think he's a genius and not to spend as long in college as I did!
Leslie- thanks, she shouldn't be proud until I've done something with my degrees. But this blog means a lot. Especially since I couldn't be there for her many times because of college.
Betsy- you are an awesome sister. now convince everyone to pitch in some money for graduation! -wink-
David, you were so sweet to take the time to thank everyone individually. I see you're just as special a person as your wonderful sisters!! Your degrees and plans for the near future are impressive. I wish you nothing but the best!!!
