Awesome Weekend

This weekend was totally rad. Robbie and I got alot of time to just hang out together, which was really great. We didn't have anything planned, so we just went with the flow. I love weekends like that.

Friday night, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs Baseball Team was in town. Their radio guy is an old friend of ours from the Daytona Cubs. We all worked together in Daytona in 05. So we went to the game Friday night and hung out in the press box with Matt for a few innings. It was a great night, and a great game.

Saturday was the best day of the year, so far. It was like, a bigillion degrees out (which I love) and the sun was shining like crazy. We decided to go to the pool for the first time this year. Alas, the pool was closed for repairs. So, we did the next best thing. We put the blanket on the grass right OUTSIDE the pool and laid out in the sun. I am getting my tan back!!!! Slowly but surely :)

After getting some sun, Robbie wanted to shop for a new fishing rod, since he broke one on our last fishing trip. Since it was the weekend, we decided to drive up to Indiana and go to Bass Pro Shops. Robbie's Mecca.

While Robbie looked for fishing supplies, I did some browsing of my own...

Yummm. Tony Stewarrrrrt.

Bass Pro has a giant fish tank with all kinds of huge fish and random taxidermied animals sitting around. Pretty cool. I wanted to jump in.

Robbie couldn't find the rod he wanted, so we putzed around upstairs in their "big game" area. Good times. Shooting video deer with a huge fake shotgun.

I am good at this game.

On Sunday after church, we went to the mall and walked around and bought Rob a new belt and ate a soft pretzel. YES.

Then on the way home, we decided to stop in at our local Chuck E Cheese to check out their prize selection. Last weekend when we were in Pittsburgh, we played kickball with Robbie's cousin's giant Chuck E Cheese kick ball. Well, you know what happens when grownups play with kids toys. They get broken. I kicked the be-jeez out of the ball and it was impaled on a tree branch, ending it's life. It was a sad sad day. So we wanted to buy her a new kickball and send it to her.

The magnetic pull of the blinking lights and music proved to be too much for Robbie, so he bummed 5 bucks off me to get some tokens.

Chuck E Cheese is the bomb. We played some awesome skee ball. I killed Rob's scores. He kept going for the 100,000 hole, and missed it every time. But when it was my turn, it was raining 50,000's up in Chuck E Cheese.

When we were done, we gave all our tickets to a little kid and he was happy.
Hopefully he was able to redeem them for an even larger piece of junk than he originally planned.

Two adults walking around Chuck E Cheese, playing skee ball and waiting in line for games behind 8 year olds. Priceless.
Who needs kids to go to Chuck E Cheese?

1) Ha! I did a similar thing several months ago at Kick's. It's like a Chuck E Cheese only it has stuff for older kids and adults too. Some little child was very happy with the free tickets that allowed them too aquire some lame candy or something.

2) Is that the place where the old Furrows hardware store used to be? I am always curious about that place when we drive by...

4) My brother has been looking to do this for months. I will direct him to your blog so he won't feel weird about going into a chucky cheese

5) Sounds like a really fun weekend, very adventurous. I love love love skee ball. What did you buy with your tickets? I always seem to be just short of something cool and have to settle for less or spend more money for more games. It's a conspiracy!!

6) Great blog for a great weekend. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the pics. I do have one question - how does a baseball team get a name like "Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs"? There has to be a story behind that name!!

7) I love Minor League Baseball team names. One of my favorites is still the Lansing Lugnuts. Locally, we have some weak names with the Kane County Cougars, the Schaumburg Flyers, and the Joliet Jackhammers. Okay, Joliet is cool.

8) My favs are the Montgomery Biscuits and the Round Rock Express. I worked in MiLB merchandising, so I used to have them all memorized. I collected a large amount of hats from other teams as well.

Lehigh Valley got their name from a public naming contest. Not 100% sure what the name means, but I know that a baseball fan created it as a contest entry, and that's the name they chose.

9) Sounds like a good weekend, Betsy. I'm in the process of convincing Shoo it would be worth our while to make a trip down to visit. I keep playing up the random photographs angle...opportunities to use the big camera seem to get him.
