Weekend in STL

This weekend, Robbie and I went to STL to hang out with my dad. We played at a casino, ate dinner on "The Hill" at an amazing Italian restaurant, climbed the arch and went to a baseball game. It was a great weekend, and I will post more photos later.

I just wanted to give a little teaser...

We stayed at the worst hotel OF ALL TIME.

When a hotel has a sign like this at the front desk, you can pretty much assume it will be a less-than-classy experience.

After we checked in, I ran to the room so I could make the 15 minute deadline and get a refund if the room was totally unacceptable. However, since my dad got these hotel rooms for free using his hotel points, there was really no refund to be had.

We toughed it out, through the nighttime gunshots, random people knocking and trying the door handle at 4:00am, and being accosted by shady-looking hotel residents.

Boy am I glad we stuck around though, because we woke up to the amazing "continental breakfast" in the "lobby."

More photos to come...

1) Please tell me the gunshots and the 4 a.m. knock are an exaggeration!!

And I can't believe you all were in the STL and we didn't know it. We really need to coordinate these things better. Looking forward to pictures.

2) The gunshots were obviously bandits stealing the gourmet breakfast.
The phrase "continental breakfast", in my mind, is synonymous with "crap breakfast"

3) I can't stop laughing. The sign about no refunds after 15 minutes is priceless.

5) If we stay in St. Louis, we always stay at the hotel in Union Station, but mostly we stay out in St. Charles - it's a nicer area, in my opinion, and not that far away. And Betsy, you totally should have met up with Mr. & Mrs. Shoo! Dang!!

6) No refunds after 15 minutes? No problem! I only need it for 2 minutes anyway.

7) I guess the 20 minute mark was just a little too much time.

9) My husband? No way, I was referring to...oh wait...uh, yes. My husband. That's who I meant.

10) My husband and I were in a similar situation a few years back in Newark New Jersey when we booked a room at the "Garden State Hotel" for the night before we took a flight out of Newark Airport. There was a long line at check in and my husband suddenly realized that rooms were being rented by the hour. In our room/crack house the mirror was shattered and the bedspread was filthy. It was too late to find any place else so we toughed it out and I slept on the floor with my clothes on staring at the ceiling. Too bad I wasn't a crack addict because there was lots of dealing going on right outside our door. Note to self...read the hotel reviews.

11) My "worst hotel ever" experience was also in St. Louis. Was this hotel near the airport by chance? I was stuck in St. Louis once after a flight was delayed due to weather. Ended up in the last available hotel nearby. They had no clock, towels, remote, soap or anything like that. There was a patched up hole where it looked like someone had stolen the air conditioner.
In the morning I found their breakfast was less than expected when an employee walked in to the lobby and threw a bag of Wonder bread at the toaster. When I asked them about their shuttle to the airport (which was really the only reason I stayed there) I kid you not - They told me to walk across the parking lot to the Holiday Inn and when their shuttle pulled up just hop on board like I had stayed there the night before.
Since I was on a business trip my employer paid for the stay, but I still feel like someone owes me for the experience.

12) OMG, I just looked at your pictures closer and realized this has to be the same place I stayed at. It was also an Econo Lodge!

13) Believe it or not I think I stayed in that place in about -.1969. The floor was so grody I wouldn't take off my shoes. Moved the next day. My x was at Fort Leonard Wood for AIT training.
