Voting Makes Me Mad

Sometimes I think the whole process is useless. I always vote my ass off, and what do I get for it? Nothing...

I tried to sign up to work the polls on Election Day in November, and this was the email I received:

Ms. Gladish,

Thank you for providing me your information however, we have you
registered as an independent and we are currently not accepting anyone
registered as such. If you would like to contact
me back for future elections please do so in January of 2010 that will
be our next scheduled election cycle. Thank you,

All I can say is, WTF?

I can't vote in the primaries, AND I can't work the polls? What is happening?!?!

1) They've got to keep out the Independents or else the Republicrats will lose.

2) Does anyone know if we can register as an independent? If we can't why not? and why does a person have to be a registered Republican or Democrat to work as a volunteer? Isn't being a registered voter enough? I am frustrated right along with you. I vote for whom ever I feel will do the best job, their chosen party does not influence my final decision.

3) That is weird. Why does your party affiliation matter. I would be upset, and I would def go into the voter reg office to talk with somene.

4) That's f'n ridiculous. This 2 party crap needs to go bye bye and fast! All political parties should be abolished.

5) The 2 party system is a crock. Not only do local politicians check voter rolls before they hire city and state workers, but the parties make it very difficult for an independent to even get their name on the ballot.

For example, I would have a heck of a time getting on the City of Chicago's payroll. Sometimes, I am even hesitant to call my alderman about an issue. They know I am a registered republican and they can be spiteful because of that.

6) a constituent should be that first and party affiliation (if there is one) should matter not...does anyone know what we can do about this? It seems that even if we disagree on many issues...we all seem to agree on this one.

7) Is that really true? Maybe that's why I don't even get a call back about State Jobs...

9) Voter registration records are public. I had a list from my precinct. (The really interesting thing is how many people don't vote.) I think it's wrong to deny anyone a position based on how they're registered. It should be the same as discrimination based on sexual preference or religion.
