He gone!

If you're a fan of sports radio in Chicago, you probably noticed the mornings have been calmer this week. Though not officially announced anywhere except for his personal website, Mike North is finished at 670AM The Score. Mike Muliigan and Brian Hanley have temporarily filled the slot of the Mike North Morning Show.

I must admit, I wasn't the biggest Mike North fan. In fact, I disagreed with virtually everything he ever said. He wasn't remotely politically-correct, but his stories of growing up in Chicago made me laugh. I especially enjoyed when he was teamed up with Dan Jiggetts on "Monsters of the Midday." They asked Harry Caray about Ryne Sandberg's return to baseball after his brief retirement.

MN & DJ: "What do you think Harry? Can Ryno come back and hit .286 for the Cubs?
HC: "What does that have to do with Drysdale?"
MN & DJ: Complete silence.

This will bring a change to The Score since he was one of the founding fathers of the station back in their 820AM days, and even the brief stint on 1160AM. He was one of the voices which filled my residence hall room at Elmhurst College in the early 1990s.

1) Robbie and I were fans of Mark Madden, a Pittsburgh radio guy on ESPN radio 1250. He was fired for saying something stupid about Ted Kennedy.

He's said alot of stupid things on the radio, alot of them worse than what he got fired for.

Our afternoons have become empty and sad since his departure.
