Looking Back: 5 Years
Yesterday, I celebrated Humzoo's fifth anniversary by treating Denny and Dave to lunch at the Elmhurst Portillo's. I'll admit that I didn't realize it was the anniversary of the launch until later that evening. Had I known that, a Portillo's chocolate cake would have been appropriate. Yeah, they're amazing.I posted my first blog five years ago today. That inaugural blog was only a few paragraphs long, but it served as a mission statement. My mission was, and remains, to discuss baseball. At the time, I still had a number of Major League Baseball parks to visit. On Humzoo, I shared my experiences visiting the parks I had yet to visit. I also looked back at the places I've been. There are photos of every MLB park I've visited on my site. Some are newer parks, some are no longer standing. I've shared details about every game I attended since blogging here. Some good, some bad. I've even attended two playoff games. But neither of them involved the Cubs.
When I posted my first blog, the Chicago Cubs were less than one month away from starting the 2008 season. They entered that season as the defending NL Central champions. Since I posted that blog, the Cubs have compiled a record of 387-424 (.477). That's 37 games below .500. Not good. Especially, if you consider that they finished with the best record in the National League in 2008. While I never had the chance to document a Cubs World Series run, the Chicago Blackhawks did win a Stanley Cup.
It's difficult to imagine that this is my 1,116th blog. Thanks to everyone who has visited and commented in the past. There's a whole lot of baseball yet to discuss.
